Has anyone seen this?

QuoteA mysterious marketing agency secretly offered to pay social media stars to spread disinformation about Covid-19 vaccines. Their plan failed when the influencers went public about the attempt to recruit them. ... The PR agency, which claimed to be based in the U.K., reportedly offered to pay prominent influencers in France and Germany so long as they agreed to spread false claims about the Pfizer vaccine, negatively comparing it to AstraZeneca. ...

I had not seen that article, but I'm not surprised.  There has been news here recently of the the 12 key spreaders of Covid misinformation on the internet, and many of them (I would guess all of them) are making money off it.  One guy from Florida has a huge headquarters building with a large staff, and he has other facilities for spreading the misinformation outside the US also.  It's a global corporate structure, just a little more dishonest than the others.

I have n idea. We could try to be painfully optimistic and think that they think vaccine is vaccine, people will reach any kind just like that. But probably they just don't care about human life at all.

By the way, if the numbers are correct, apparently approximately the half of the world is vaccinated.  I think it is safe to think that a huge amount of people will never get any, for any gven reason.

I could have guessed that.

Absolutely horrible.

While not directly tied into this, an article I just read on the Washington Post I think in some ways actually is fundamentally linked; malignant forces, both foreign and domestic, have spent pretty much the entire "Social Media Age" stirring up distrust between the people and the authorities (by this I mean authorities on a topic moreso than authorities in charge)... and while distrust of authority is an inherently good thing, like anything else too much of it is destructive.

Where this ties in is that, for many of us, we have reached a point where we turn to 3rd party sources to find out information before we turn to the authorities on a subject... and those 3rd parties are generally much more easy to be compromised and are just as biased (often far moreso) than established organizations. While these people did the right thing... how often do content creators take the money and not report it?

The article has more to do with "The Big Lie", but I think this distrust is a universal issue and not just for one or two issues. I also think it spends too much time talking to say something that required a lot less words, but it does have a few important parts...

QuoteFor years, Americans have been targeted with epistemic warfare â€" that is, with attacks on the credibility of the mainstream media, academia, government agencies, and other institutions and professionals we rely on to keep us collectively moored to facts. Those doing the targeting are nameable individuals and organizations, including Trump, conservative media outlets, Republican politicians, anti-vaccine groups and Russia’s Internet Research Agency.

...

But our primary means of defense is to be awake to the scope and origin of the threat. The first step toward winning the war on truth is to accept that we are in one.

And let us not forget that this "distrust" is highly selective/inconsistent.  Every credible MD on the planet doesn't know what he/she's talking about, but Dear Leader Don knows how to bleach away the covid and the Demon Sperm lady is a secret genius.  Party line politics with your grandma dangling over the lava pit.

Yep.

If you cant trust experts, who can you trust? Well... I guess the guy who is telling you how smart you are, and how right you are, for not falling for these deceptions.

Which holy shit I just realized that, like literally 99% of things these assholes do... accuse everyone else of the thing they themselves are doing.
