Title: Does your spirit still roam the Earth after you die?
Post by: twozerozeroonefive on April 14, 2020, 12:01:53 AM
It's weird because I had a dream where I died but my spirit was still able to roam the Earth and see everything...

But does it happen?

He can, but he's not supposed to.

Dreams are just incoherent thoughts that we try to hammer into a rational scenario. There's no reality involved.

Out of body experiences are metaphysical, not physical.  When you are asleep you are partly independent of time, space and personal identity.  Atheist deny the metaphysical, so for them, dream are just a bad reaction to what they had for supper ;-)  Regardless, the meaning of dreams is mostly too incoherent to interpret anyway.  You are trying to interpret your dream as a post-life ... but it may have been a pre-life, a parallel life or just something you had for supper that disagreed with you ;-))

A few nights back, I saw my parents, who have been "gone" for a number of years ... didn't seem to be much like heaven, hell, purgatory or a past memory.  Upon waking I was just happy to see them, and left it at that.

Well, some dreams are sexy.  And we actually change sexes or sexual preferences compared to our daylight identity.  Are you sure you weren't Jessica Alba ... getting fucked?

Here we go again...

Out of body experiences are metaphysical, not physical.  When you are asleep you are partly independent of time, space and personal identity.

There is zero evidence for any of this.

Seems (as always) you are putting the cart before the horse. Before you can demonstrate that "out of body experiences" are metaphysical, you have to demonstrate that the metaphysical (as I think you are using the term) exists. After all, something that does not exist, can not be the cause of anything else.

To make things worse, you also need to demonstrate that out of body experiences actually occur, in the real sense of some bit of one's consciousness, leaving one's body, as opposed to being a mental experience only. After all, there are hospital rooms all over the world, that place images face up on top of cabinets, and not one person who has claimed that they leave their body during a resuscitation or surgery, and claims to have viewed the event from above, has ever been able to report they saw the image.

Does this prove that OBE experiences don't happen? No. But they go along way toward deconfirming them.

QuoteAtheist deny the metaphysical, so for them, dream are just a bad reaction to what they had for supper ;-)

I do not 'deny' the metaphysical. I just am unconvinced that it exists. Please tell me, what should be my justification to accept the proposition that the metaphysical exists?

Same goes for: gods, ghosts, bigfoot, Chupacabra, etc, etc. I do not deny they exist, I just do not find any warrant of justification to believe they do exist.

And thus, my ongoing interactions with theists. All I want, is the believe as many true things as possible, and to eliminate from my beliefs as many untrue things as possible. If a theist has good, evidential, rational, and logically valid and sound justification for their beliefs, I want to know it. But what do we continue to get instead? People claiming their personal experiences, various ancient texts, flawed and fallacious 'logical' arguments (Kalam, teleological, ontological, presuppositional arguments), etc as evidence.

QuoteRegardless, the meaning of dreams is mostly too incoherent to interpret anyway.  You are trying to interpret your dream as a post-life ... but it may have been a pre-life, a parallel life or just something you had for supper that disagreed with you ;-))

Or, the meaning may be nothing more than your mind integrating all that it took in that day, with your previous memories, knowledge, beliefs, etc. And what do you know? That explanation does not require any presuppositions of metaphysical realms, that mysteriously remain invisible to detection.

Funny how, all through the history of humanity, whenever some phenomena with metaphysical explanations, has actually been explained, it has turned out to be a natural explanation, everytime.
