Title: Stimulus checks
Post by: PopeyesPappy on April 13, 2020, 07:25:32 PM
Anybody get theirs yet? Ours was deposited today. The Ms. ordered a new Foodsaver vacuum sealer. The one I bought 12-15 years ago is getting flakey. I'm going to order a mortising attachment for my drill press as soon as I can find a battery for my calipers to measure the quill and make sure it will fit. The rest goes into savings. Fuck stimulating the economy.

Not yet. If it's the full $1200 (and it should be, with my income) I might spend a couple hundred on things I've been waiting on. But most of it is going into savings.

Not for me, yet.

Pretty much all of mine will be going to savings and bills since it's due back at tax season.

I'm a non working college student at 30, so, that makes me dependent. I receive a big middle finger from the government.

I know people who have theirs. We're going to put ours on high-ish interest credit cards.

You got it thru mail or direct deposit to where your usual tax refunds go?

Potentially my adult daughter is in the same boat.  We will see ...

i was dragging my feet, on reducing debt, after going into retirement, with no income (haven't filed for SS yet).  With the pandemic, I am paying off all my debts, credit cards first.  After that my car loan.

A stimulus is money injected when the economy is running normally.  Juicing.  This is a fill-in, to replace money that would ordinarily be spent.  When the non-essential businesses open up, I will be happy to work on restoring income to the less advantaged.  I am tired of eating McDonalds ;-)

This seemed possible in the US a month ago (when the reality of lockdown was still theoretical).  It seems possible in Australia and UK now.  They are both more socialist than the US.  This is problematic for the EU, because of the Euro.  Italy can't print Euros, they need to suck Germanic tit to convince the Germanics to do so, and Greater Germania just said no to "corona bonds".  Germanics being Germany, Austria, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium on alternative week days, and such tiny impurities as Luxembourg and Lichtenstein.  Denmark may be an honorary member because of geographical contiguity.  The US, UK and Australia have the potential for this, primarily because they print their own money.  And aside from the China/Russia combine (as core of the BRICs), the US dollar is the global lingua financial tool.  How much liquidity/monetary expansion can the warp drive take (per Scotty)?  Liquidity expansion isn't inflationary but may have other bad effects.  Monetary expansion is inflationary (but manageable in a time of deflation).

In conclusion, if the lockdown continues all the way thru May, rather than partial letup in some states in May, then an additional tranch of displaced employee support will be necessary.  New York and other particularly hard-hit areas, will the latest and slowest to let up.

Most early Covid checks were deposited electronically.  Mine and my Ex were deposited electronically today.  For other people with more complicated tax filing situations, the money will be derived by a check in the mail.  This can be tracked thru the IRS website.

No check yet.  I may be in the group that has to wait.  I think I usually owe the government money, and they have permission to automatically withdraw from my bank, I don't know if that's the same box I check that allows them to direct deposit.

Direct deposit. Mom got hers yesterday too. She also got dad's, and he passed away in September of 18 I guessing that sooner or later they'll be wanting that one back. She'll be lucky if they don't want interest.

People who have already filed at IRS for last year (this year) ... are in the clear.  Alternative methods available to those who haven't yet filed for last year (this year).  Sorry.  Check out the IRS web site.

Well, it is based on someone filing for taxes this year, for last year's income.  I assume your parents filed jointly, so the check should be against that status, not individually, unless they were separated etc.  Don't know if the money is pro-rated.  I only worked 1/3 of last year.

My wife and I got ours yesterday--direct deposit.  For the last 8 yrs. we have went to the Seniors Center to have our taxes done--they do them M, W, F thru the tax season, starting in early Feb.  Not this year--the center has been shut down for quite some time, and who knows when it will re-open.

In mom's case the check she received was based on her 2018 joint return. She hasn't filed her 2019 single return yet. Apparently a lot of people are in the same boat. Treasury hasn't figured out what to do about it yet.

Not quite.  Yang says, get a monthly check forever.  Trump says get a check one time, because of a pandemic.  The attempt to do guaranteed income in Finland failed, because even they are lazy assholes.

Basically an idea based on worry about automation eliminating all jobs.  This is what Marx taught, because steam engines would take over the world, and that energy and infrastructure would tend toward zero cost because of always increasing automation.  But this is a misunderstanding of thermodynamics.

Full Soviet Union = full failure
Half Soviet Union = half failure

China?  They transitioned from Mao poverty to Xi prosperity, because they have actually moved from primitivist communism of the 60s to mercantilist fascism of the 2020s.

Millions of people who use tax preparation services didn’t get their payments.  Customers who use tax preparation services such as H&R Block, TurboTax and Jackson Hewitt complained on Twitter and to The Post that they didn’t get their stimulus payments Wednesday.  IRS and Treasury officials said they are aware of these issues and are working to fix them.
This happened to me.  I filed using Turbo Tax.  They have my banking information, and Turbo Tax must act as a middle man.  Money gets transferred through them to the IRS, but the IRS doesn't have my routing and account numbers... or something.  I don't understand this, really.  As long as I eventually get my check I'm fine.

You agree to let Turbo Tax as your agent with the IRS. It was very quick for me and they asked questions I wouldn't have dreamed would be relevant. Added $350ish dollars to my return.

Primary Claimer: I have not authorized Turbo Tax to quote me.

Turbo Tax directed me to the IRS tool for claiming your stimulus check.  I then filled out information that I already gave to Turbo Tax.  The IRS site is not just for Turbo Tax users.  It's for anyone that got lost in the cracks.

IRS automatically forwarded my check to the bank where my last tax refund went to.  Routing and account numbers are at the bottom of your checks.

I see I got a deposit of 1500.00 but I had some tax amendments this year as well so it may not have been that.
