Title: Hungary Officially Adopts Dictatorship
Post by: Shiranu on March 30, 2020, 03:57:34 PM
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-30/orban-takes-sole-command-of-hungary-with-pandemic-emergency-law

QuoteHungary’s parliament handed Prime Minister Viktor Orban the right to rule by decree indefinitely, effectively putting the European Union democracy under his sole command for as long as he sees fit.

...

Hungary’s ruling party lawmakers overrode the objections of the opposition in a vote on Monday, handing Orban the right to bypass the assembly on any law. The Constitutional Court, which Orban has stacked with loyalists, will be the main body capable of reviewing government actions.

Indefinitely handed unlimited power, anyone found spreading "misinformation" (anything the State doesn't approve of) is to be handed 5 years of prison, anyone found violating curfew is to be given 8 years of prison. Parliment is to be suspended (although it is already full of Orban's Fidesz nationalist party who support his dictatorship anyways).

Poland likewise has been sneaking in new legislation, with 79 new bills granting unconstitutional power to PM Kaczynski being introduced between 2:00 AM to 4:00 AM to avoid opposition, and in Israel Netanyahu has been using this as a way to reinforce his power after several years now of it being eroded and undermined by opposition.

And of course your normal players - Russia, Brasil, Modi's India, Cambodia, etc. - have also been using this as a means to centralise power with the ruling party and crack down on any descent.

(slightly petty, but times suck and I don't give a shit... this is the same Hungarian PM and party that pr was enamored with because of their anti-Muslim stances, and it's "fun" [I really wish I had been wrong] to have been proven right about how horrible they are)

Oh, and as a part Sicilian-American, this is particularly troubling to me as well...

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-30/italy-risks-losing-grip-in-south-with-fears-of-looting-and-riots

... Italy has been fucking over Sicily for 160-odd years, and the island is impoverished because of their colonialism (why my mom's family came here in the first place). Now the island (and the rest of Southern Italy which was screwed over in the Risorgimento) is on the verge of riots and allowing the Cosa Nostra to retake control, and Rome is too weak to do anything about it.

Ditto in both cases.

Like China, Hungary can move more quickly with a dictatorship.  Since Hungary is multiparty (unlike China) a dictatorship is necessary.

Italy isn't one country, but 5.  N Italy, Rome, S Italy, Sicily and Sardinia.  So of course N Italy and Rome have been blood sucking on the other three parts.  This is very ancient ... Rome blood sucking Sicily and Sardinia goes back to the 3rd century BCE.  N and S Italy were conquered at that time as well.  The various Cosa Nostra families, are the continuation of Roman Empire by other means.

Pure democracy is a baying mob with pitchforks and torches.  A representative Republic moderates the negative aspects.  Hence the need for an independent and functioning legislature, that is independent of the executive.  So yes, suspending the legislature is a very bad thing.  Their being annoying and impossible is part of their function.

Rights under authoritarians ...

"You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used
against you in court. You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice
before we ask you any questions. You have the right to have a lawyer
with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be
appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to
answer questions now without a lawyer present, you have the right to
stop answering at any time."

Except for the lawyer bits, and right to remain silent or stop answering bits.

SJW logic ...

"Edgy teen gets picked up by the cops. They say they are just trying to help him and he replies, "If you want to help me, make drugs legal and money free."" ... bwahah.
