Explained using NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). This is how the majority of the people are daily being programmed by the authorities. Religion was a system for doing this, but not the only one. Ideology is another. Hitler talked to the German people (after having studied with a master hypnotist in the 20s). He had good report with the audience, and had the skill and intent to lead them where he wanted to take them. Uber-persuasion. The audience wasn't innocent ... they were prepped by their prior experience. Hitler acted as a catalyst to form that POV into a similar POV more of use to him.
Had classes (at the Presido in SF) for about 6 mo. while in the active Army Reserve. This was in the mid-80's so I've forgotten much of it. But my unit was a Military Intel unit and so we were interested in how to read people and how to question people. It was one of the activities I liked while in that unit; forgotten much of it, of course. Too bad I did not keep the printed matter that we used.

I do remember the US Army 45 pistol team used those techniques to train. An Army team also used the techniques to train a HS basketball team without going to a gym--mental exercises; as I remember it they make a marked improvement over the prior year. And the Army Interrogators used the techniques as well. I'm sure I'm forgetting more than I am remembering.

I can attest, that consciously, I have always been immune to commercial advertising. I don't know why. An area of huge effort and research in applied psychology. Or am I convinced by advertising that I am immune to advertising? In propaganda, I am easily carried away. I want an enemy identified, so I can be directed who to kill (soldier thinking). My parents and grandparents were in WW II/WW I. I realize that is a weakness, so I learned to set this kind of thing, consumer or political, on the slow boiler, to see what would come of it.
This is why I no longer support parties, but will rationally discuss the merits of individual candidates or policies. For example, why in 2008, Obama was a good risk or in 1992, Clinton was a good risk. But what most people do is by "brand". The fact that a candidate is supported by a particular party, is decisive. They don't care what the personality or proposed policies the candidate is promoting. Often because of cynicism. Hence, my non-vote for Trump. So for example ...
Hillary Clinton 2016 ... Democrat (irrelevant), Bad Wife (relevant), Warmonger (relevant). Both major parties tend to kick up horrible candidates.

I would have been more interested, had she divorced Bill. Only a bad wife would put up with that shit. Only a pure power mongering gold digger.
