Title: Mass Shooting in El Paso
Post by: Baruch on August 03, 2019, 10:29:40 PM
"El Paso shooting leaves 20 dead, 26 injured; investigators probing potential 'nexus to hate crime'" ... a great tragedy.  Hopefully the injured will recover.  The shooter was arrested without incident (that seems strange to me).

So ... poor mental health strikes again.  Like the young man who shot up the church 2 years ago.

Don't worry--trump and his slime balls will be sending their thoughts and prayers.  It will be all better then.

Hasn't every president in published history not sent their thoughts and prayers to the victims of major tragedies? Pretty sure Obama did that a lot.

So he was caught alive. You know what, I don't even think he was depressed a little bit, let alone a 'poor mental health'. Apparently, he was 'fighting' against the 'Hispanic invasion of Texas'. I am sick of people defining these piece of shits as mentally disturbed. They know what they are doing and they plan to do it and do it very willingly.

Texas has death penalty. Hey, I am sure they could build a side argument based on stupidity, while putting him in a max with Hispanic inmates. Well, too bad he'll be isolated.

Yes.  The perp may have not killed himself because he is sociopath, not suicidal (as are so many).  Oswald wanted to live, to be famous.

Real Texans are quite used to Mexican-Americans ... for almost 200 years now.  Bet his family was new to Texas.

Sad.  With murder suicide, you don't get to interview the perp.  On the other hand, they don't get a soap box.  3 states in a row ... Cali/Texas/Ohio.

In our town ... we only had a suicide in the last 20 years.  Guy went into a sporting goods store, was looking to purchase a shotgun.  He asked the sales girl for a box of sells.  He loaded one up, put the gun under his chin, and splattered his brains on the ceiling right in front of that hysterical girl.  Very rude of him.

The recent stats show that 25% of mass shooters had mental diseases. The other 75% didn't. So that's that. But most Americans believe it's their God-given right to own a gun. In a country where there are more guns than people, it's a surprise that we don't have more mass shootings.

My hillbilly* cousins have a thing called The Big 50, being the fifty relatives with the most guns. The total is now in excess of 2,000 guns.

woo someone had their balls twisted when he sat down.

Not even sure what your fucking point is, a president gives his thoughts and prayers to victims of a mass killing, if trump hasn't said anything you'd just as much call him a p.o.s. I know he's transparently easy to hate on but this is just pathetic on your part.

How is that you don't get his remarks? He is not talking about what he said or didn't or what was required to say in this situation. May be you should explain your comments in this situation. Because I believe you are doing this deliberately, or if you are that stupid may be you should be treated differently? After all it is first not fair to you, is it?

He is talking about the fact that he acts as this is something very normal, frankly wouldn't move a finger to do something about it, but only work for more guns to be in circulation in the country.

This is domestic terrorism. It's about white supremacy. This is right now the number one problem the country has. Yet the president can't even acknowledge what it really is. One of the first things Donald Trump did when he sat on that chair was to remove the term white supremacy from official gov sites. As long as he is concerned, it doesn't exist. It's a fucking lie.Obama is the president helped this term to be normalised.

Shootings, church burning...etc these perpetrators take support from Trump, because he is fucking racist. 3 historic churches were burnt in 10 days a few months ago. Black churches. The young white man was charged with 'hate crime'.

Obama started a program to fight with domestic terrorism which largely is white terrorism. Trump declared he won't renew it last year, while FBI reports the problem is a white supremcy problem and it is getting bigger and bigger.

So yeah, Americans have a right to say anything about his approach, anything he said or didn't say...anything comes to their mind. I personally think Mike was pretty polite with sarcasm.

I've been around atheist forums for around 25 years, and I've heard the comment about presidents sending out thoughts and prayers at least that many times, along with the names of the presidents who said it (specifically, every president in the last 25 years).  As atheists, we know it's going to be said, because it's expected in our culture, and we realize that the remark, as warm and fuzzy as it sounds, is empty of rational meaning, and that not much else is going to get done.  As atheists we take it in stride, annoying as it is on principle.  There is no reason I can see that Trump must be excluded from the remarks we make about the rest of the lot.

The general Trump politics is the reason for the escalation of white supremacist mass shootings.

If a president openly,

-divides a nation by races, making vile comments about nonwhite communities
-calling hispanics 'rapists', a black majority community 'rat and rodent infested mess'
-defends white supremacists in a KKK rally,
-supports for getting more guns to stop mass shootings in schools,
-ignores the white domestic terrorism in his country,

he will be treated differently by anyone who has two brain cells to rub together. Yes, it is a political few words he is expected to say.

By the way, who was the last American president calling 6o million Americans rapists and thieves, again? Or defend KKK rally?

Did you guys know a few of the congresswomen started to get death threats just after his vile tweets about them?

I would say that given what he said, trump is at least being a realist when it comes to americas problem with guns. No other president has fixed the issue, and him trying would just make no difference to the bigger problem that country has with its need for guns.

if obama was such a paragon why are there still major social and political  problems in america? Its all well and good putting someone on a pedestal, yet if your now concerned about these problems here what did he even do that was so great?

americans also have the right to call out people for whatever political or social views they adhere to and argue against. No. It's number one problem because the president is incompetent about everything he does, he tweets like a retarded 10 year old and playing with racist politics at the same time. His remarks, attitude and politics are the reason for the escalation of a specific mass murder. And anyone who acts as if this is something ordinary, has no idea where this is going.

Stupid comparison. Stupid question. I have said Obama acknowledged the problem and tried to do something, while Trump fuels and acts as if a specific problem, staring everyone in the face doesn't exist. Do you understand the difference? Putting on a pedestal? Great? How old are you?

Have you ever reread something you've posted and tried to look at it from an outsiders perspective? Maybe I'm just trying to rial you up because I see so much of this as a joke, but your the one giving the pent up reaction as if someone stepped on your shoes.

Its funny because I share the same outlook now as Baruch, the only guy on this forum towards the more theistic belief, and one who himself looks at all this with passing disregard, which I often find makes more sense then anyone else here.

Your details are not quite right, but yes, at the request of one of my twin daughters I purchased and own a youth starter rifle six years ago. I took her shooting first at age 8. As a former US Navy officer, I fully qualified as an expert marksman in rifles and pistols. I did not take her shooting as a "reward". I took her at her request, and to teach her firearms safety. I keep all my firearms locked securely and take firearms safety seriously. I have also taken steps to ensure their security should friends or family members show concerns about me.

Six years later as a cadet in youth auxiliaries for both the US Navy and US Army, she has qualified as an expert marksman with both rifles and pistols. She has her sights set on gaining entry to the highly competitive US Naval Academy. She's getting straight A's to improve her chances and is on a dedicated physical training program.

Yes, I'm fully aware the USA has a gun culture problem, but militaries will be a necessary evil for centuries to come. As long as they are, it's important to have rising leaders who are responsible, thoughtful, and compassionate.

50 years ago is when the NRA changed its primary emphasis from a gun safety and marksmanship to white supremacy. The NRA backed gun control laws such as ending open carry when the Black Panthers were the primary open carriers.

Change will come all too slowly, but I think it will come. It will come because we've raised a generation plus of kids who grew up performing lockdown drills in school and hearing news report after news report of why they had to do that. Unfortunately, I do not think this nation will address the problem seriously until those generations have the reins of power.

I do think there needs to be a separation between military gun culture and "American", shoot-em-up gun culture.

My dad taught me how to shoot when I was younger; we lived on a farm, he was ex-Air Force and it was useful to know how to properly handle a rifle as well as common sense things like never keep you finger on the trigger, make sure the gun is unloaded and the safety is on until you are ready to use it, and never point it at someone without intending to shoot them (both of which, once I started shooting with people who weren't raised around guns, I realised weren't as common sense as you would think).

The only real flaw was we didn't keep the guns locked up, but... it was a different time so to speak (my dad was my step-great-grandfather).

As far as I know, the overwhelming majority of shooters are not formally trained in gun use, or even trained by someone with formal experience.  This is going to come as a shock given how "anti-gun" I am, but I have no problem with parents teaching their children proper gun usage, maintenance, and discipline. They are a useful tool and one that people should know how to operate.

General American gun culture and knowledge of guns is much more... action movie influenced, and that in it's self is a huge issue.

Ideally, only heirloom guns and extremely limited round guns should be allowed... and that only after extensive background checks and training. Likewise I think it needs to be stressed more and more how much more dangerous a household with a gun is to one that isn't, and in the case where the gun is in a house with a family... all members of the family have to be checked and also have to consent to having a gun in their house.

Agreed. I don't think this is what the Framers had in mind when they referenced a "well-regulated militia":

I agree. Traditionally, US kids got exposed to firearms through their fathers or grandfathers hunting. Hunting in the USA has declined by 50% in 50 years. Now when kids are exposed to firearms for the first time, it's often not from a responsible adult like your father. It's all too often a gun fetishist, right wing nut or prepper who exposes them to firearms the first time.

If the gun lobby and NRA were smart, which of course nobody ever accused them of that, they'd work to get Democrats elected. Nothing makes gun bunnies hop to the gun stores like a Democratic president.

Except for 1861-1865.  I wish we had communism in 1861, then the Rebels would have no arms.

The recent stats show that 25% of mass shooters had mental diseases. The other 75% didn't. So that's that. But most Americans believe it's their God-given right to own a gun. In a country where there are more guns than people, it's a surprise that we don't have more mass shootings.

Sociopathy isn't an illness.  Psychosis is.  Almost all people are psychopathic (twisted personality), and a section of the psychopaths are the sociopaths.  It would be so convenient if all bad people were psychotic.  Hitler for example, was not.

Mike is all about Liberal dictatorship?  Maybe you can get him to Pinochet Turkey for you?

Most people in the US are White.  So most terrorism is White.  So are most welfare mothers.  The biggest beneficiaries of 60s liberalism was White women.  But that isn't true of violent crime ... young Black men specialize in that ;-(

50 years ago is when the NRA changed its primary emphasis from a gun safety and marksmanship to white supremacy. The NRA backed gun control laws such as ending open carry when the Black Panthers were the primary open carriers.

Change will come all too slowly, but I think it will come. It will come because we've raised a generation plus of kids who grew up performing lockdown drills in school and hearing news report after news report of why they had to do that. Unfortunately, I do not think this nation will address the problem seriously until those generations have the reins of power.
I do remember finding out about the NRA when I was 10'ish or so.  And it was because they offered gun classes featuring safety.  As for change, I'm afraid you are right.

Yes, roving gangs of homophobic mutants everywhere.  Well, I wouldn't feel safe being publicly gay, anywhere.  Sad but true.  But remember, high casualty events are rare ... it is more likely to break your neck falling in the bathroom.  I have been nervous only once, when a White man, in a restaurant, was doing "open carry".  I guess he wanted to have the means to complain about the food or service ;-(  I have lived in bad neighborhoods.  Had a mob hit across the street.  Wasn't afraid.  You simply have to know how to behave, around the particular people you are among ... and what hour it is safe to be there.  3am in a druggy neighborhood ... bad plan.  Showing up to the John Birch Society meeting in drag ... maybe not good situation awareness.

I mean, the media does generally lie about most things; or more accurately presents it in a very intentionally crafted way to evoke a certain response from the viewer. News corporations are just that - corporations, and at the end of the day their objective is not to bring you accurate information... it's to make sure their shareholders are happy.

The "purest" media you are going to find are sources like AP and Reuters, who are mostly journalists rather than pundits. But what you watch on T.V., or read on the internet, is overwhelmingly the work of pundits rather than journalists. In terms of pretty non-biased pundits, your best bet are from companies like Forbes & TIME... and lowkey The Rolling Stone actually has some really talented investigative journalists in their staff.

Some of it is malicious, conspiracy shit... and a lot of it is just human nature. We literally all do it with our speech, it's just more damaging when people with bigger audiences do it.

I am actually not interested in your reasons or explanations or what is your job, or why you did it. Buying an 8 year old kid a fire arm, designed for children and taking her to a shooting range is not OK. By 'reward', I meant taking a kid to somewhere to do something in Christmas. Yes, it is a reward. A big one.  Christmas is not an ordinary weekend fun.

As I see it, 8 year old kids do not have requests. They do not have the fortitude to make requests or choices. They just want things, as all kids do. 8 year old kids, esp. daughters will do anything to make their fathers happy or proud, to do something with them, esp. if it is something related to their occupation and make them openly proud.

A boy wouldn't have much choice, it would be automatically expected from him. But then daughters and fathers have a more intense relationship. Not to mention a daughter being successful at something male dominant like this is always more precious for a father in the same occupation.

Your daughter didn't choose anything. You made a choice for her. This is about you. It's about making you happy. She liked it, well, why wouldn't she? It was a game she can play with you and it made you happy.

If you made her do something else with you when she was 8, show the same positive atitude, support, pride she can see; let her have that confident now she has, she would have the same success with almost anything. Anything. That's how kids, people work. And you chose to give her a gun, because it is you.

It's pretty much like those mothers who put their daughters in beauty pagaents. All those girls 'request' that when they are 8, you can be sure about that. Yes they enjoy it. The clothes, the attention. Everyone loves them. They work hard too. They can make a life, they can even get scholarships, the world is their oyster...blah blah If we cut the politically correct bullshit, it is all about those mothers, isn't it? It's about making them happy first. Society just looks down on thisone and praise something like yours.

How are these things are similar, besides actually being about parents? They are both adult actions. Giving a child a fire arm at 8, or sexualising a child at 8 for competition; to start them in a life are not different from each other. It's not something those kids have chosen and they can't even know the difference.

So, yeah I think the same things I did 6 years ago.

...General American gun culture and knowledge of guns is much more... action movie influenced, and that in it's self is a huge issue. ...

Could that be because they get used to them very early as kids and don't respect, even get the lethal power of the object they handle? Not to mention that people are not equally mature or responsible. Trusting people; parents on this, is madness.

Knowing America, I get the early driving thing. You cannot survive there, if you don't drive. It's different over here, so most people around the world don't get it.

They can't drink till 21, can't smoke tabacco till 18, but can 'handle' guns if you 'teach' them younger than that?

Even letting a 16 year old kid drink a couple of glass of hard liquor under supervision has a logic in itself. She/he could experience the effect and get to know that this shit is something completely different when you consume it, but there is no risk. The worst case they would puke. So they learn 'I got to watch this!' But fire arms are not hard liquor. Or a lighter. Or a knife. Or a car.

If you want to raise healthy adults, kids should stay as kids. They should especially stay away from adult actions up to a certain age.

I stop watching the news channels when there is "breaking news" about a mass shooting.  This is not from indifference.  It is that, for a couple days, there really isn't any meaningful information and the news of the rest of the world is ignored.  All they do is speculate and show the same couple of minutes of video over and over and over.

I can't stop the gun-crazies, I can't stop the lobbyists, and I can't stop the elected politicians who bow to them saying for a few days that "it is too soon" and then pivoting to "that's in the past".  All I can do is decide to support any and all candidates who swear they will enact gun-control measures.

So I put Ken Burn's 'Civil War' or 'Baseball" in the DVD or tune to the Cartoon Channel or such and leave it playing while I clean house, cook dinner, attend to the cats, weed the garden, etc.  At least it isn't the unknown "who what where why how" before the facts are even known.

I wait for facts to come...

You mean tiny. Anything large would overstimulate his conspiracy theory to the nth degree. Confinement, eyes patches, earplugs and straitjacket. Just let him drink from a straw, and even then his nutjob of a brain would go into warp drive.

Republican guide to mass shootings:

Only thing missing is "blame the mentally ill." I also like how some Conservative Christians will say, "It's not about guns; it's a condition of the heart. The world is evil." Because if it's a white guy, it's the whole world's fault.

Closest thing I've seen to a good flow chart in decades...  I often scribble flow charts when trying to evaluate a decision.

OK, so we know all that about bigotry.  What do we do to change it?  More Republicans?  LOL?

That would take too much time and effort.  Then no pro-bono, you have to hire me as a correspondent (they mostly copy other people's shit too).

You could Google the source in most cases.  If I bothered to provide a source (and yes, some stuff is preliminary or speculation) then the source is attacked (not CNN, Washington Post (aka Dem sources)).

I stop watching the news channels when there is "breaking news" about a mass shooting.  This is not from indifference.  It is that, for a couple days, there really isn't any meaningful information and the news of the rest of the world is ignored.  All they do is speculate and show the same couple of minutes of video over and over and over.

I'm the same way, give it a couple of days for the facts to gel. All that panic at first is not informative, just noisy.

I'm fucking tired of Republicans making stupid, baseless claims like this. We do not have a mental illness epidemic. We have a gun epidemic. If he finally acknowledged white supremacy as an issue, good, I guess. But I find that a bit hard to believe. I did see him propose capital punishment for hate crimes. Because of course, that's the solution. Mass shooters are always terrified of dying. That's why they never shoot themselves before falling into police custody. Oh wait...

I suspect he has an ulterior motive for this. "Quick and decisive" capital punishment for "hate crimes." In other words, he hopes to remove due process for the accused, further increasing the risk of innocent people being sent to death row. I suspect Trump would have a very convenient definition of the word "hate crime."

And of course, blame the video games. He heard people talking about video games making people more violent, and hearsay is always true. If only there were a branch of science which had decades worth of studies on the subject... If only.

No, I meant bullet in the stomach compared to a knife in the stomach. I have read that a bullet in the stomach takes a long time to die and it is very painful. Apparently, it's not cleaner, because of the stomach acid? I guess the knife going that deep is a low chance, but a bullet is certain.

But sword wounds are not common wounds. I mean knives.

Most Americans find knife deaths more scary because of the gun culture, lol. There was a something on this.

It may be more the kind of wound.  A gut wound will linger for days before you die regardless of cause.  In sword fights, there is usually a shield and gut wounds are more common.  With guns, you tend to shoot the head or torso and bleed to death quickly.  The victim, not the shooter...

I bought a few replica weapons decades ago (it was a random catalog, but that's why they mail them) and sharpened the edges of the 2 gladius swords on my grinding wheel.  Those are sufficiently close to real to be functional and are essentially machetes with dual cutting edges and a point.  The Epee isn't exactly Damascus steel, but the point is the point.  That is for stabbing between shields (I think). The swords you see in movies were for specialists.  Big huge weightlifter guys.  And 30 minutes and they were done!  But most swords through history worked by stabbing or slicing and they weren't really heavy. You had to wield them all day, after all!

I had a rich friend who is fond of heavy medieval swords. He used to order from Soctland. This is long time ago. I tried to lift a two handed, loool. I managed. May be they are commercial ones, I have no idea. But even the smaller ones they call 'bastard swords' ? was very heavy. They look like they are made to crush, not cut anything. But then I have the physical power of 5 cats. It's freaking steel you know. It's normal that they are that heavy.

I do gather from reports that the El Paso shooter posted anti-immigrant writings.  That would be a far-right thing.  The Dayton shooter "seems" to be an angry teen student and the motive is not yet known.  THat's from The New York Times an hour ago.  The most recent I could find...

How about an 'are atheists actually satanists in disguise with a front?' discussion, I can recommend a thread. Rubes will come up with some thing like that any way. Let's beat them to it. :p

Anyway, yeah he is disturbed, no surprises there. But what was he 'fighting' against by killing people as a leftist mass murderer? One of the victims is his sister. Victims are white, black...etc. What is the ideologic motivation in these killings?

You know what I just wondered, does he have any other natural relationships with any other victims? Does this man know these people?

Well, that is something, at least.  But please do not associate atheism with Satanism.  That's just plain wrong.  Satanism (to the extent it actually exists outside the minds of messed up teenage boys) is technically just another theism.  We have enough confusion as it is...

Paul Joseph Watson is an altright radio host and ex-minion of Alex Jones. And you posted his comment?! This has become an iq test.

From the video: "If you are going hold Trump responsible from El Paso shooting, so you have to hold Elizabeth Warren is responsible from a Dayton shooting, because Bett voted for him." And don't have time to waste for the rest.

Trump is responsible from these shootings because he has been pushing a disgusting, openly racist policies since back the beginning of his campaign. Bercause he can't do his job. He empowered these people. He didn't consider any of the consequences of his drivels. This is not just a matter of voting for him.

Voting for a democrat does not make anyone an extremist left winger you british moron. An extremist left winger, wouldn't vote for anyone to begin with.

or is it another case of because one was a far right, all far right are to blame for it, but the other guy who was far leftist, that was just an individual thing and he was mentally unwell, nothing else to blame.

Nothing stops a war hammer ... or an ordinary roofing hammer.

Often a claymore was used for battering, with one hand on the pommel, the other at the other end, using it to block like a gun stock.  And the knobby end could do a lot of damage too.  But the best were Swiss halberds.  Giant can openers, to be used on French/Burgundian knights circa 1477.

Yeah, because those Republican Representatives and Senators totally didn't oppose everything Obama did, just because it came from him. That'd be silly. I mean, can you imagine a world where the very next Republican President was petty enough to try to overturn everything Obama accomplished, simply on the basis that if Obama did it, it must have been bad? So glad I don't live in a country run by those types of people. [/sarc]

Also, I find it funny that when people criticize Trump for the cliche "thoughts and prayers" response, you come running to his defense. But when a retired President speaks on the subject, your response is to accuse him of trying to win political points. Yeah, you're not biased at all.

Munch, I did not say you were a theist.  I said you argue like one.  By that, I mean you take one word or phrase and run with it and not addressing what is being talked about.  You seem to simply want to be contrary about everything.  Lately, when the word Trump comes up, you always seem to say 'but Obama', when Obama has nothing to do with anything.

Brits don't have TDS, they have BDS.

You'd have to be living with your head in the sand to think this problem is all because of trump. But that just makes it easy doesn't it?

Except I haven't said anything of the sort. Nobody has said anything of the sort. But yesterday, you were bitching about the previous president on how he couldn't handle this problem -which has started in 1890s- just in two terms, weren't you? So it is pretty much your perspective or the lack of it.

There is a rise in one type of a specific sort of crime. Even the FBI who often downplays reports on these sort of crimes -probably for public control or call it racism in the establishment- while still down playing, openly says that there is an obvious rise in white domestic terrorism, the most domestic terrorism arrests this year involve white supremacy.

Trump deliberately follows a hostile, divisive politics. Against non white communites. Nobody cares, if the man Donald Trump, as a person himself is really racist, xenophobic or not. Because his key role is being the president of the United States of America and the policies he makes inside or outside the country do NOT just affect Americans, but also AFFECT OUR LIVES in many different ways. It's not just economics...blah blah I don't care if you or Americans can't see that. That is the way it is.

How blind or stupid -just to give you a choice- you need to be not to see that what a man says or does in top position, directly affects everything around him? That his attitude defines actions and reactions of the people he leads or in this case he can't lead?

Yes, it is that simple to manipulate masses. (Ffs, you get triggered from something as moronic as a youtube video telling why a vague group of people hate a straight fictional character.) Yes, it is that simple to create hatred or trigger people. Or also create unity. Frankly, if you build your politics on spreading hatred, start to insult ethnic and racial groups as soon as you get the mic in the election race, keep talking about how that group of people who are rapists and thieves invading the country and that you will build a wall to stop them, you have a responsibility in a man's actions who opens fire to kill people from that specific group! Plain and simple.

... Having that scapegoat rather then analysing the larger picture.

The race war is the ultimate paranoia, the ultimate fear; the base of collective memory of American people. Doesn't matter what generation they belong to. It only changes make up. So it is the ultimate material of politics in the US. If we could dig down the collective subconscious of America, we'd find a fear of a civil war in many different forms down there at the bottom. I am not even talking about a traditional one.

Why do you think the identity politics have developed there in the first place after the WWII? Because it is the fucking land of the free and home of the brave, lol? It's not just the economy or the military power. They are cut out of from the history and the old world in their own way. No other state has a power over their own people or country like this.

Every characteristics of the country, from population density to the diveristy, its age, its history, its culture that its cut out from old world, its hostility, its consumerism, its madness, its popular culture, its violence, man eating system, its competitiveness, its life style...every thing we look as problem generally is going to have a point of collapse in the USA, first. Not in fucking Europe. I am not necessarily talking about a success or a failure. I mean a collapse. If capitalism will collapse or turn into something else, it will happen in the USA. And hopefully, it will happen before they all kill each other or rest of the world. Europe is a cast system. It's the most racist structure on earth. Nothing is coming from there.

And deliberately feeding into that fundamental anxiety, fear of this culture, provoking it, using it..is playing with fire like you don't know what. There is a kaiju lying there waiting, one that will wake other ones around the world. And unfortunately, we don't have a Godzilla. Is that large enough?

LOL. It's because of the nature of the right ideologies and its common mentality. Doesn't matter what angle you put it, how eloquently you put it, what you add to it... it is dogmatic, limited, primitive and only about the group of people who have that mentality.

It's the same reason why any various right groups -like religious ones- constantly invent enemies, threats out to get them and victimhoods they suffer. Also why generally, the right wing ideas are against 'individuality' and see everything their own as the norm. Everything is against them and about them. Without that mentality, there is no right.

It's about putting blame and making comparisons like a 6 year old child. They are reflecting of course, becuse if they can't create victimhood it has no use.

For example, right wing white Americans and Brits think, immigrants are stealing their jobs and there is even a group of people who think they can't get rich because of immigrants in their country. LOL So that's their created victimhood. They take it from the left -over here, democrats in the US- because the other side keeps shoving the real victimhoods into their face and set the tone. So they had to adopt it. Like religions adopting and changing in the modern era. Intelligent design?

It's the 'intelligent' designs of the right. 200 years ago white people were better because that's how god created them. Now using other means they are trying to do the same thing. Famous ones, Why black people are 'stupid', but good at physical activities. Why they are prone to crime buy birth. Tons of twisted bullshit out there supposedly based on evolutionary sciences. A very old way of making politics in a new sense, but now, in modern world it is actually 'personal'. Not 'individual', it is 'personal'. AHahaha.

More common form is which camp are you in? Which one is your team?

E: And even while complaining about partisanship, what right wing minded people do is exactly the same thing. Baruch gave a good example to me in one of our convo. He said he knows that this and that group is really oppressed in his opinion, but he refuses to support them, because he thinks there is partisanship in these groups. LOOL So if you are oppressed because of something -race, gender, sexual orientation, which is into everybody's face- you can't develop a prejudice because that is oppressing someone in a group who is not oppressed because of the same things.

That's the right wing mentality.

As a 5th grader in Alabama, I began seeing much of that.  The signs 'Colored' and 'White' were plastered everywhere; but some places we assumed to be labeled (such as churches and lunch counters) but the signs were invisible.  Now all those signs are gone--except, in reality many of them are still in place, but invisible.  The Alabama churches I went to were all about fear--do as the minister says or go to hell.  And I learned about bullying.  More often than not, the victim was at fault and to blame, not the bully.  So, bullying flourished in that area.  Bullies are still in charge, from the White House, down--and Trump has given them the green light.

We are talking about Dayton shooter. The idea that he should be defined as 'a leftist extremist' because he voted Democrat -WHICH IS CENTRAL RIGHT- is ridiculous, because he doesn't fit into an extremist leftist profile. Not because he can't be and acted on what he thinks he is. Not to mention he killed his own sister. There is a chance he knows his victims. Does that sound ideological to you? That doesn't lighten the deed. He is a mass murderer.

But we are mainly talkling about El Paso Shooting, because in the last 20 years, domestic counter terrorism strategy has ignored the rising danger of far-right extremism. Because it doesn't fit the Republican agenda at most. Considering they deny it even exists. And the worst thing is the law enforcement has been blind sided when they realised what is going on, because since around 9 years ago they had no idea what the fuck is going on.

https://www.adl.org/resources/reports/murder-and-extremism-in-the-united-states-in-2017#the-incidents

Quote"...Over the last decade, 71% of domestic extremist related killings in the US were linked to right-wing extremists, while Islamic extremists committed 26% of the killings, the report notes. An Islamic extremist committed the single deadliest incident in 2017: the New York City vehicle ramming attack killed eight people. Left-wing extremists and those who didn’t fall in the previous two categories carried out the other 3% of deaths. 2017 was the second year in a row in which black nationalists committed murders in the US. ..."

Sovereign Citizens, Right Wing Extremism Are The True ‘National Emergency’

It's a fucking jihad.

https://youtu.be/A_TC1qCi0RQ

QuoteA January 2018 study showed 71 percent of domestic extremist killings between 2008-2017 were committed by right-wing extremists in the United States.

“I have the absolute right to declare a national emergency. I haven’t done it yet. I may do it. If this doesn’t work out, probably I will do it. I would almost say definitely,” United States President Donald Trump stated on Thursday prior to boarding Marine One to be photographed at the US-Mexico border.

President Trump continues to remain fixated on receiving $5 billion for steel border fencing and is in no hurry to end the partial government shutdown that has affected over 800,000 workers in the United States. That figure does not include family and friends who are attempting to help their loved ones. Despite President Trump’s hyper-focus on the Mexican border, the United States currently has a net outflow of undocumented workers.

“The number of Mexican immigrants living in the U.S. illegally has declined by more than 1 million since 2007. In 2016, 5.4 million unauthorized immigrants from Mexico lived in the U.S., down from a peak of 6.9 million in 2007. Despite the drop, Mexicans still make up about half of the nation’s 10.7 million unauthorized immigrants (51% in 2016),” reads a Pew Research study from late last year.

Extremist Violence Presents A Real National Emergency

“These findings are a stark reminder that domestic extremism is a serious threat to our safety and security,” began Anti-Defamation League (ADL) CEO, Jonathan A. Greenblatt. “When white supremacists and other extremists are emboldened and find new audiences for their hate-filled views, violence is usually not far behind,” he would continue. The quotes accompanied a January 2018 study which showed 71 percent of domestic extremist killings between 2008-2017 were committed by right-wing extremists in the United States.

Police officers Jacob Carlson and Randi Garrett of Casper, Wyoming had a near-deadly encounter on May 6, 2018. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) reports.

Instead, he [the assailant] responded by pulling out a gun and unloading a hail of bullets. Upon seeing the gun, both officers immediately retreated and attempted to take cover. In the course of doing so, one of the officers was struck at least five times in his back. A police spokesperson would later characterize [the assailant] as a sovereign citizen. Don Fuller, who represents police officers after shootings, said that [the assailant] “fancied himself as ‘sovereign.’” Sovereign citizens often do not recognize law enforcement or government authority.

Officer Carlson was shot at least five times but would recover after receiving immediate medical attention. “The movement is rooted in racism and anti-Semitism, though most sovereigns, many of whom are African American, are unaware of their beliefs’ origins,” details the SPLC analysis on the Sovereign Citizens. “In the early 1980s, the Sovereign Citizens movement mostly attracted white supremacists and anti-Semites, mainly because sovereign theories originated in groups that saw Jews as working behind the scenes to manipulate financial institutions and control the government,” the breakdown continues.

“When a sovereign feels particularly desperate, angry, battle-weary and cornered, his next government contact, no matter how minor, can be his final straw. The resulting rage can be lethal. In 1995 in Ohio, a sovereign named Michael Hill pulled a gun on an officer during a traffic stop. Hill was killed,” SPLC explains a situation that was similar to the incident which left Officer Jacob Carlson with multiple gunshot wounds.

The Sovereign Citizen Threat

“The Sovereign Citizen movement was the most highly ranked threat, with 86 percent of respondents agreeing or strongly agreeing that it was a serious terrorist threat. This is a significant increase in ranking from an earlier survey implemented in 2006-2007, which showed Islamist extremists to be law enforcement’s top concern at the time. In that survey, approximately 67 percent agreed or strongly agreed that Islamist extremists were a serious terrorist threat,” showed the results of a 2014 study by National Consortium For The Study Of Terrorism And Responses To Terrorism (START).

The study surveyed “more than 364 officers representing 175 state, local and tribal (SLT) law enforcement agencies to examine perceptions of: the threat of terrorism; the nature of information-sharing; and whether agencies are prepared to deal with terrorist attacks.”

“They didn’t realize that there are people at war with this country who are not international terrorists. These people are willing to kill and be killed for their beliefs. And they are more dangerous to us in law enforcement than international terrorists,” said Bob Paudert, who was the West Memphis, Arkansas Police Chief in 2010 when his son Officers Brandon Paudert and Bill Evans were murdered by a Sovereign Citizen. Judy Thomas of the Kansas City Star details their murder:

The white minivan pulled over on Interstate 40 near West Memphis, Ark., in 2010 came back registered to a church in Ohio. Inside the vehicle were a Bible and some documents quoting Scripture. Minutes later, Evans lay dying in the ditch and Paudert was sprawled on the roadway, their bodies tattered by two dozen bullets from an AK-47. The killers: members of the sovereign citizen movement, which the officers had never heard of.

If there are a disproportionate number of Right wing inspired killings, then the Left wing needs to get to work.  Civil war may be necessary today, in several countries.

@drunkenshoe Sorry, if you read Marxist or Democratic media in the US, that is not a way to find out what the US is like.  Anymore than just watching Fox News.

Conservatives (pro-status-quo) are always the majority in every society.  Liberals (anti-status-quo) are always a minority.  Neither are necessarily violent.  Just the fringe groups, using the mainline groups as cover (eg Sinn Féin vs IRA) are violent.

QuoteYou'd have to be living with your head in the sand to think this problem is all because of trump. But that just makes it easy doesn't it?

I don't believe it's all because of Trump, and I don't think anyone here does. However we do believe he is an active instigator in the increase in violence in the United States and statistics back that up. He also has worked with Congress to decrease regulations on gun laws and cut the FBI's white extremist budget from $21 million to $3 million despite the fact the FBI has said for at leas a decade now that white extremism is the most imminent terrorist threat to American people.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/03/22/trumps-rhetoric-does-inspire-more-hate-crimes/?noredirect=on (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/03/22/trumps-rhetoric-does-inspire-more-hate-crimes/?noredirect=on)

Counties that hosted Trump rallies in 2016 saw a 226% increase in hate crimes versus counties that didn't. The United States as a whole has seen white supremacy hate crimes on the rise since his election.

He isn't the source of the violence, but he is intentionally stoking the flames and pouring fuel on them. That has been his brand since the primaries... when the president of the United States is making excuses for white terrorism, calling Neo-Nazis who murdered an American woman "very fine people", who use to be friendly with men like David Duke, who to this day says the Central Park Five should have been executed despite the fact they were found to be innocent and the case to be extremely racially biased, who has a history of racial discrimination charges against his businesses, who laughs when someone at his rally yells the solution to immigration is to "go down there and shoot em!", who accuses an entire race of people of being rapists and criminals, ...

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck... it doesn't mean you hate it if you call it a duck. It just means it's a fucking duck.

Don't get me wrong, I think both parties benefit from it; the Republicans (mostly) with funding from the NRA and the Democrats from increased donations from people gullible enough to think they will do shit about it. Likewise the cops are salivating over the potential expansion of funding and right to harass and survey people.

If someone is going to call all sides on their shit, call all sides on their shit. The Democrats "love" these shootings, the police love these shootings, because it benefits them in the long run... that's why they are all talk about fixing the problem but when it comes crunch time they don't really do shit. But if you are going to call one side out, you gotta call the other out as well. Trump objectively makes this situation worse (which benefits everyone but the populi).

If the Democrats had as big of problem with this as they say, they would be fucking rioting in front of State capitals, demanding action be taken, and doing everything in their power to remove people like McConnell from power who block any attempts at gun reform. But it's more profitable to act out-raged, rake in that donation money from people who think you are going to do something, and then wait for the next tragedy to rinse and repeat.

None of that exonerates Trump though, and just because I believe that doesn't mean I think that Trump should have a single second of excuses made for his role in this situation.

I don't apologize.  I would be fine with as much genocide as humanity can dish out.  A Turkish Marxist knows America?  Bwahaha.  Not that I mind you being Turkish or Marxist.  The triggered Rs or Ds are delusional.  Don't rely on their on-the-ideology observations.

The D party narrative, similar to Labor party narrative in GB.  Communism Now!  And no, I don't equate the numbers or severity of violence by political provocation.  That is something violent revolutionaries do ... so you can further infiltrate their victim's communities.

A man trying to analyse 21st century with ancient religious postfiguration is telling people who they are and what they can know.

Why does Israel and Palestine continue to fight?  They both benefit.  If one of them decides it is no longer in their interest, one side will compromise, but eventually will be eliminated.  Long term stability will only happen if both agree at the same time, that it has no benefit for them.  This applies to civil war situations as well.

You want me to defend Trump because I didn't vote for Hillary?  Will never happen.  The President can defend himself.  With nukes.

Texas police at work with ingenious solutions. 'We arrested him for tresspasing, why don't we just cuff him and tie up with a rope so we could ride our horses.'  It was just bad judgement, they didn't have any 'malicious intent', the cop apologised, the tecnique is immediately banned. Munch, that is perilously close to promoteing white supremism.  Perhaps look at it more as starting to include The Rest Of The World.

Personally, I have better thoughts of the survival of humanity if we all end up a general shade of tan rather than a whiter shade of pale.  The sooner skin color (and that's all it is for perfectly good evolutionary reasons) is eliminated as a reason for division, the better off we will be.  It would be one less problem.

Confabulation my dear Cavebear.  Culturally I am SW American ... aka Texas to S California.  That applies even if I lived in Maine.  But I was born in El Paso.

My work for the last 22 years was for DoD.  I got to work for 3 days, on the Hubble (played hooky from my department), years before that.  That is all the Nasa I got to do ;-(  That was during my 20s, when I was otherwise working for DoD.  32 years as a DoD contractor in aerospace engineering and in medical computer system support (my various mentions are scattered all over my 33000 posts).

Retired, now I am preparing to move near my daughter in Farmington NM.  To worship like a Native American ;-)  Very SW American.

Replacement fears seem so silly after the fact.  One might wonder what modern day French and English think about the Franks and Angles and Saxons who replaced the Romans...  More to the current day, the 1900s British-Americans had some real fears about the incoming Italians, Irish and Germans.  Does that bother anyone here now?

The standard experience in the US is that original immigrants try to keep their language, the children are bi-lingual and after that, you can't tell them from the Mayflower Pilgrims...

To hate
And fear
You've got to be taught
From year
To year
Its got to
Be drummed in your dear little ear

Be carefully
Taught
You've got to be taught

Afraid

Who's eyes are oddly made
And people who's skin is a different shade
You've got to
Be carefuly
Taught
You've got to be taught

Before you are six

You've got to

For the 10th time, it's Ottoman. Ottomans do not refer to themselves as Turks. Turks are commoners, plebs...

They did keep slaves and highly likely traded if not regularly. If it wasn't recorded, it doesn't exist. If it was recorded it wasn't studied or made open. It's just not possible.

But then besides 'the official slaves', tons of people were practically slaves in Ottoman Empire, who needed ships full of them from Africa? You don't need your skin to be black to be a slave. Turks -as in traditional Turks- are not black or even brown. That seems to be the fucking problem. Because most of them think they are white.

Cavebear, I don't think anything about Armenians. You keep asking me that, because the only thing you know baout Turkish people is  the Armenian Genocide.

My apologies.  Being a historian that's what comes to mind as a sore point to or about Turkish people.  That and invading SE Europe way before that.  And I don't have any skin in THAT one.

Sorry.  I keep forgetting.  That name on the map, doesn't say Ottoman Empire anymore.  It says Turkey.

One way people show disrespect for details they don't care about much is by deliberately getting the identifications wrong.

My english peasant ancestors were land-fixed serfs.  Slaves.  Does that get me any consideration?  Hell no, LOL!

There are plenty of Turks, outside the Ottoman Empire.  I am including them too.  Are you defending Muslim jihadis now?

It's OK. But first of all it is not Armenians, it is Armeanian Diaspora. Which is VERY different than Armenian people who have a lot to worry about, genocide is probbaly pretty down on the list.

If you are a historian you should know that Republic of Turkey didn't exist during the time of Armenian Genocide. Modern Turkish identity only exists in Hollywood movies in that period and the Ottoman Empire is often refered anochronistically as Turkey because Western audience don't recognise the name. Like in Amadeus for example.

If you are curious. Exactly like almost all other Western countries, Turkey refuses to accept genocide, because they cannot afford to pay land or money. On the other hand Armenian Diaspora refuses to sue Turkey in court. Because it's a political game and they want to buy some thing more. And the politicians in other countries -France, America..etc- exploit their desires. May be you remember, once upon a time it meant some thing to 'recognise a genoicde'. Now it doesn't. For example a country passes a recognition and then call the prresident here and inform him that it offically means nothing concerning trade or politics.

The centenary of the genocide was the year everyone expected Obama to call it a 'genocide', not a massacre, but it didn't happen. I don't know why. But Obama is the first American president who apologised for the Mesoamerican Genocide and that was after Erdogan apologised for the Armenian 'massacre'.

You tell me. It's politics.

Not the point.  The point was, Lefists (not necessarily you) will ignore this violation of narrative.  You can't reinforce propaganda with broken narrative.  The proles might see thru it.

There are actual White Supremacists out there.  Just as there are actual anarchists and communists.  Nasty people all of them.  You can claim that some of those are worse than others, if you like.  So if my group is finds cantaloupe growers to be demonic ... then would I not accuse the shooters of being cantaloupe eaters?  This is why everything, even hemorrhoids, are now called racist.  There are in fact, no Wehrmacht marching down the street, or Red Army troops either.

Temporary allies.
If you want to make it into a dick measuring contest, then Communists win hands down in people killed. But in the west, fascists are (currently) on the rise. Despite what people would like to compare the two (like in the political horseshoe theory), they're not the same. Communists would you believe that that everyone is equal and the workers should own the means of production, etc.; while fascists drone on about a nation made for its chosen people (ethnonationalism) and that the state should get the whole rule of law over economic, political and social regimentation, etc.

The only thing in common is an overlapping authoritarian ideology at its foundation, pretty much everything else is different.

Which is more sinister? IMO, fascism.

We have an ignorance epidemic in this country, spearheaded by the Republican Party, who are nothing but paid employees of the NRA and gun manufacturers. We use our military around the world to curb arm smuggling, yet our own government and legislators are engaged in arms dealing domestically. An irony with tragic consequences.

The El Paso shooter was fighting against the "Hispanic invasion of Texas"... Texas was founded by the Spanish, and named so by them. Texas is properly pronounced as Tejas. So many lives lost because of one dumb motherfucker. It's infuriating. Too many dumb motherfuckers I should say.

The Dayton shooting should put an end to the "good guy with a gun" argument (but of course it won't, who are we kidding). The shooter was shot by patrol 30 seconds after firing the first round. In 30 seconds, he murdered 9 people. That's 1 kill every 3 seconds. Even If there WAS anyone there with a concealed weapon, they have only 3 seconds to draw, aim, shoot, and kill. In an environment full of panic and screamingly terrified people, and loud gun noise. And logic says that a shooter who is locked, loaded, and ready to shoot with intent to kill has the tactical advantage over an unsuspecting family with one member carrying a concealed weapon. We're supposed to agree to endangering our lives because Hillbilly Bob wants to play fucking Rambo?

You are wrong, Baruch. Among the enlisted ranks in Vietnam, nearly 6 young white Americans were killed for every young black Amerian. During this period blacks made up about 11% of the US population. They accounted for a little over 14% of the enlisted deaths. If you add officers that number drops to about 12.5%. Blacks were slightly over-represented in Vietnam, but more whites served and died during that war.

Edited to remove the reference to rates in the last sentence. Blacks served and died at a higher rate than whites in Vietnam, but there were still a lot more whites than blacks.

Far from it.  I am simply freeing myself from the "White Mans Burden" ... liberal or conservative version.

I am not the status quo authoritarian here.  I continue to grow in freethinking, rejecting everything I have ever been taught, everything I have ever read ... unless it can pass the smell test.  And intelligent posts (that I don't agree with) have been instrumental in this.

Correct.  People here only remember the liberal MJ haze of their youth.  There was a time when a Protestant would cross to the other side of the street to avoid going by a Catholic church.  Germans, Italians, Poles, Jews etc were all discriminated against.  But to my POV, old vendettas never die.  In the US or Europe.  They are merely sleeping.

So you are saying that MJ was legal under LBJ?  As I recall, wasn't Reefer Madness from the 1930s?

Actual war on drugs goes back to 1890s .. they actually believed that Black men (there we go again) were drugging White women to sleep with them, creating miscegenation.  Nixon didn't do shit.

OK.  Wasn't claiming it was 100% Black men.  Are you claiming that LBJ was a good guy?  That his War on Drugs and War on Poverty were any better than his War on Gooks?  Black men didn't get draft deferments.  Whites did.  I would have drafted all the college boys, first.

I was disputing your claim that, "Most men sent to, and who died, in Vietnam, were Black men." It is just flat wrong. Not even close. The slightly higher rate that blacks served and died in Vietnam can be explained by white draft dodgers and/or higher volunteer rates for blacks. It didn't require any conscious effort by politicians to kill off the blacks.

As far as Johnson goes American involvement in Vietnam began under Truman when we were financing the French effort there. Our involvement escalated under Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon before the decision was made to abandon the effort.

The boards at the edges of the walls don't get hammerred in the same way as ones in the middle boards do.  So a couple keep pushing up.  One reason I don't walk around barefoot.  And I've even used glue to try to hold them down.  THIS time, I'm using a dab of construction adhesive.

Been hibernating?  I was up at all hours before I retired.  Yes, almost always Unbeliever has sangfroid.  As I have discussed before, there is little reward for long or complex posts.  They aren't read by anyone.  Occasionally I will break out of the "mini-me" mode.  As far as meaning goes, this is an imperfect medium, everything chopped to pieces, the interrelationships unclear (like footnotes of footnotes with not text body).  But better than the old Vantage vanity publishing (they closed Jan 2013).  Joe has good physics, if you care for that.  Not Popular Science junk.

I (and others) read detailed posts.  That doesn't mean they have to be pages long of drivel.  But they should involve some facts.  When you use facts, your posts might regain some respect.

And that does suggest to me that I personally might try to be more concise sometimes...

Only with long drunkenshoe posts, those are the only ones I have a hard time reading.  Excepting the ones that are cryptically short of course (pr126 often just posted a video with[out] commentary).  Some just one word, a few are zero words.

I read long posts when they make sense at the beginning. Few long posts do.  It's not like I need to read a few sentences from a crazed theist to ignore the rest, after all.  And as the brief-speaking royal fool as you usually are, I do appreciate your brevity.

Yeah, the best way to stop gun violence is to arm everyone?  I read that in someplace (Central Park, NYC?) a motorcycle backfired and people went running.  Now imagine they all had AK-47s...  People firing at anyone they thought was a shooter.

Well,   It might reduce the population of AK-47 owners slightly.

Open carry tells a criminal  where to find a gun.

As does an armed teacher's desk drawer.

In 2016, the last year for which the CDC provides numbers 22,938 people committed suicide by firearm, while 14,415 people died in gun homicides.

According to Daily Caller News Foundation analysis  (a right to arms group) gun carrying, private citizens who used firearms to stop criminal attacks saved at least 283 potential victims in a period between July 2014 and July 2015.

Let’s see, that’s over 37,000 people who used guns to die themselves or kill someone else, and  283 people who were saved by them..

Of course, anyway who wants to kill themselves might find a way.  Tried to slit your own throat lately with a knife?  Its really hard..  I checked out some websites (I will not give links) but  apparently you can’t slit your own throat.  You flinch.

Medication seems popular, but you usually through it all up and live wretchedly for days after and never try it again.

You could arrange some gadget to crush you, shoot you with an arrow, etc,  but that takes building skills and is pretty iffy.

Self-hanging is often used (about 70% efficient) but apparently it is slower than commonly thought and people who survive it seldom try again. (Wikipedia).

Another website discussed filed self-shooting attempts, but the failures seem to be numerous and gruesome.  Apparently, people in distress can’t aim very well.

It seems that the most certain way to commit suicide is to tie a cinderblock to your foot and jump off a boat.

So much for justifiying guns for suicide…

How about for killing other people?  Well, that works pretty well.  You can’t blame a gun for doing what it is designed to do..  But that isn’t much of a justification for having a gun.  Especially not a repeater type.

I’ve hunted.  I killed quite a few animals in my day.  Deer, rabbits, quail,  even a few groundhogs (and trust me you really don’t want to eat groundhog stew).

Speaking of quail, if there was ever a justification for a repeating hunting weapon, it’s quail or dove.  But then there wouldn’t be much left to eat, would there?

So why would any civilian need anything more than a 12 gauge shotgun?

Well, to imagine (in the dead of night after listening to people who make you afraid of “The Govt”), of course.    Because those who  think they are a part of a militia who could stand up to the Army with all their trained soldiers and tactics are completely looney-tunes!

So let’s drop all the militia dreams and get rid of the guns that kill us.  The NRA says that 283 people protecting themselves successfully per year is worth 37,000 deaths.

I don’t think so.

It will, when the Earth has been cured of humans.

The cockroaches will too.  Being tropical insects, they actually depend on our warm apartments.

In non-tropical climates, yes. But the sheep will be the big losers when we go.

Think about this.  Dogs will vanish and cats will hardly notice we are gone.  Those that aren't locked inside anyway...

Dogs will go feral, mix with coyotes and wolves. We'll get labradoodles that stalk bison.

Its a great series of DVDs.  Not why we vanish, just what would happen if we did suddenly.  I greatly recommend it.

Odessa Texas. 5 dead--21 injured.  Dust not settled yet, but one shooter--white male about 30--was killed.  Reports of people in cars shooting; a US Postal van was hijacked; a college is locked down.

I was wondering when this would happen.  White males simply taking their rifles and shooting at nobody in particular and those with dark skin.  And that fucking orange evil bastard is still in office.

No, but I looked it up quickly.  It has a cause.  Life After People is just "we vanish" no reason.  And what happens on Earth after.

One of my all time faves!  I very rarely re-read novels.  This one I've read twice--and since it has been over 30 years since I last read it, I'll have to dig up another copy!  On The Beach; Level 7 and Alas Babylon are also good reads about life after.

On The Beach was a great movie.  I don't know the other 2.

Quote(CNN)A gunman in West Texas who went on a shooting spree, killing five people while randomly firing from his vehicle and then from a hijacked mail truck, was shot and killed by police in a gun battle in a movie theater parking lot, authorities said Saturday.

At least 21 people were injured, including three law enforcement officers, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said at a news conference. A hospital administrator said a child under the age of 2 was hurt and at least seven people were in critical condition.

Gerke identified the shooter as a white male in his 30s. His name and a motive were not given.

Makes me happy.  Y'all can die sooner or later.  I am not particular.

“A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them.  Which would include their own government.” - George Washington

Of course he was.  They used the economic success at the time.  It was evil.  So was English serfdom, and the practices of most places at the times.  Life was awful then.  I am glad that most places got out of slave economies.  That the US was one of the last to do so is forever shameful.

But I suppose someone always has to be last.  I do sure wish we hadn't been the last, but talk to Southerners about the details on that.  Some of MY ancestors died ending it.

Yes, we are colonials (now).  Rebels (now).  Slavers (now).  Nothing good about the USA?  Except all the other bastards.  Don't tie your identity to your nationality (sarc).

Speak for yourself.  In the US, we had to fight a damn vicious and bloody Civil War to end it because slavery was so integrated in a major part of the country.  And in some ways, we are still fighting it.  I envy those nations that managed to end slavery more easily.  It was not a proud time.  We still struggle with the "original sin" of slavery.

But we do fight it.

The original sin is coming down out of the trees.

20,000 teen girls are enslaved in the US.  Many "guest workers" are enslaved but not in the sex trade.  Fed by human trafficking which has bipartisan support.  Put on your lycra suit and go superhero for us ;-)  And stop pissing on the ancestors.  We don't have anything on them as far as virtue goes.
