Hmm ... the people in Riyadh won't approve!

Even in Plato's Republic, they had the "Myth of Er".  Does that qualify as real atheism?  Was Athens right to execute Socrates?

I have to say that radical Islamic groups that seek to hunt Allahless people does not emerge per se. Instead, they are fed and grew by the agencies who pursue their own goal to build the new world order.

Damn right, the Athenians were right to execute Socrates.  The gadfly attracted every traitor in Athens.

You would be one of the subversive gad flies.  Buzzing all about the Agora.

No, I'd be Socrates - without so many questions.

I wouldn't have a shrewish wife. Who needs that?

The question is what Socrates was seriously questioning.

Socrates questioned absolutely everything.

The question is what Socrates was seriously questioning.

Socrates was a free thinker, who was patriotic to Athens, but didn't count common opinion as important.  The commoners took that to mean he sided with the aristocracy (and he commonly hob-nobbed with them socially).  He mostly held court with young aristocrats, who were regarded at best with suspicion, and at worse as traitors.  He probably did have one gay relationship, with Alcibiades, when they shared the same campaign tent during the siege of Potidea.  Alcibiades was 18 at the time, so this was accepted pederastry.  Socrates would have been 37, a little old for that kind of relationship (sex education).  That Alcibiades later became the most notorious traitor in Athenian history, didn't help Socrates' case.  Bettany Hughes biography of Socrates is the best "The Hemlock Cup".  In my study of Greek, one of the exercises is to read part of Socrates' Apology (court defense by the defendant) in the original language (as presented by Plato, but a different version is by Xenophon).

Socrates questioned absolutely everything.

Not patriotism.  He died for it.

His view of religion was un-orthodox.  His criticism of popular religion was elliptical.  Don't confuse him with Diagoras of Melos, who was an in your face atheist, and had an Athenian death penalty sentence in absentia.

I think that Socrates was a serious dissenter from the whole democratic process.

Duh.  He lacked the "common touch".  Most egg heads do.
