QuoteTeen commits suicide after accidentally shooting friend: cops
QuoteA Georgia teen took his own life after he shot and killed his friend in a New Year’s Eve accident, according to police.
Gwinnett County Police said Devin Hodges, 15, was showing off the gun to three other pals Monday afternoon in Lawrenceville when he accidentally fired a shot.
Two for the price of one.

I prefer knife fights. More action, more bloodshed, less death. They can be patched up and put back in the arena to fight again. Got gladiators?
I will be fine with disarming the government ... you should to, since you want the US cops to be disarmed UK bobbies. Perhaps you can find Mary Poppins.
I'm reading an interesting book, called The Trigger (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Trigger), by Arthur C. Clarke. It's about a hopeful, accidentally discovered "trigger" that can detonate nitrate-based explosives, such as gun ammo and various other explosives. The scientists want it to be used to stop all gun violence in the world, while the government - well, it's the government, and so has other ideas.

As a pro-government person ... I am happy if "you" disarm. Some girls dig amputees ;-)
On New Year's Eve, not too far from me, a woman was seriously wounded by celebratory gunfire (https://www.wral.com/celebratory-new-year-s-gunfire-seriously-wounds-unc-student-at-first-night-raleigh/18097245/). (bottle rockets and roman candles are illegal around here because someone might get hurt)
People fire their guns into the air, and don't realize that what goes up must come down. Unfortunately, they're not the ones who get hit by falling bullets.

My dad and I did this once, with a 22 rifle. Not a good idea ;-(

Which is why you need to lose your car or truck. Proles should walk. It is good for you.

Nice! Every statistic shows that a family death by owning a gun is more likely than by facing one. But the gun nuts think "yeah, but not ME". And most of them are 2nd amendment fanatics.
A bizarre thing is that I might be a safe person to own a gun. I live alone, no children or angry family member to worry about, and I'm not the least suicidal. So naturally, I don't have one.
Agreed regarding Wild West fantasies. And I am safe with a gun also. I take them very seriously. We have never had a gun accident in our family.

Well, I do have a few Gladiuses hidden around the house. Do they count? And it would take a crazy person to attack a chef near his knife block. You wouldn't believe how evil a deli-knife is.
But I keep all the doors locked all day. And with sturdy bars across the deck doors.
Actually, no, the vast majority of people will never experience a break in. That is mostly a fear of people who watch too much Fox News.

I found Latin easier to understand than the stream of near gibberish of "conversational Spanish". At least I learned a lot about English fro my Latin classes (aside from trying to make Hannibal carry his elephants across the Alps).
And I'll go with Fortran or Basic over Cobol any day (well, "back then" of course). I mastered each and even helped my classmates in COBOL, but I never liked it. COBOL is structured, Fortran is logical.
To this day, I often solve problems using flow charts, and I associate them with Fortran.
Quick story. In an office completely unrelated to computer programming, the Boss mentioned the Holiday Party the next day would have teens of co-workers attending and to try and think of things that might keep them busy.
So I wrote a "hangman" game in Fortran in an hour with a 100 word random matrix. The teens loved it, my Boss was impressed as Hell, and *I* got stuck doing "that new computer management stuff" for the next couple years.
I was Radm. Grace Hopper's driver one day back in 1988. She had helped develop COBOL and she told she was stunned to realize that it would out live her. "Just a program to make do until real programs were ready."

my "YET" was the universal "YET" to be applied to any and all occasions dealing with anything in particular. For gun owners always a YET, for cooks always a YET, for motor cycle riders always a YET. To be applied to anyone who steadfastly declares that for the general population if a person follows A,B,C almost always they will always avoid the YET. It is an unsubstantiated claim that inevitably is whacked upside the noggin with a YET.

An "admirable" person, and how special you got to be near her. I can understand why you like COBOL. :)

WHAT?
No one is safe - ever. If it's not guns it'll be something else, like heart attacks or auto accidents or meteors (or gringos?) falling from the sky. Maybe self-driving cars will decrease the number of auto-related deaths and injuries, but nothing comparable is likely going to be available for guns, since self-shooting guns won't work well. The gun nuts don't like the idea of biometric safeties for guns, either, so that's unlikely to help.
I figure I won't be safe until I'm covered by six feet of dirt.

It all depends on the odds. If I'm not likely to have a heart attack, then I worry about guns or distracted drivers.
If our normal lifetime was 1,000 years, do you think there would be adjacent lane highways? If we lived 10 years, would anyone worry about cancer? A lot depends on insurance statistics, meaning what is most likely to kill us before average.
I suspect we mostly worry about things that aren't likely to kill us. But that doesn't mean I don't want to reduce some of those.
MEANING, if self driving cars kill 1% of us and save 2%, bring them on!
