Title: It goes the same as how you begin the new year.
Post by: SoldierofFortune on December 29, 2018, 07:16:21 PM
what is your plan while entering the year?
they say it goes the the same throughout the whole year as how you begin the year at the time 00:00...
are you a believer in this?
at least this shows our will and intentions: )

My plan for 2019 is to make it to 2020.

I figure the odds are 50-50 with the dickhead in the White House.

I plan on living 2019 pretty much the way I lived 2018. I have no ambition to accomplish anything, except to learn more stuff.

The old family tradition was to play an all night round of Monopoly (the board game), staying up at least until the Disco Ball drops in Time Square NYC.  But time and family have moved on.  I am left with only the bitter dregs of nostalgia.

We never went in for those New Years resolutions.  After the divorce, I have had much more time for study.

When the clock strikes midnight I will be working, which is fine by me.

I'll probably be drunk entering the year as usual, but my plan is to make it to 2020 as Minimalist said.

I want to translate a specific book just to challenge myself. It will be too difficult if I make an attempt. I'm thinking about it, but... I have a very long reading list.

Finding a man sounds good. But men like me is living like me; in their homes, avoiding people and social life. I wish there were buildings with small life units built in for just one person, but connected to each other with a door. So when you get a partner, you would each get a unit but also live by yourself and come together at yours or his when you wish.

I'm not planning anything for the coming year. I would like to be alive at the end of it, but whatever.

I used to try crashing New Year's parties but these days I'm hoping to be sound asleep when the Ball drops.

Hello, all.  My son and I usually stay up together and watch the ball drop on TV.  He is not going to be here this year but I will probably watch it anyway.

It is not a long term separation.  He is visiting his aunt in Texas.  I'm sorry you are not near your daughter.  I may have to face that when my son is done with college but is just a Sophomore.

Which are your favorite episodes? I like the one with Burgess Meredith, last man on Earth. But they were all really very good.

I like that episode.  I also like the one with William Shatner on the airplane, the one where the 4 people wear masks and their faces end up like the masks, the one where the beautiful people are ostracized because every one else has the same ugly face, the one with Agnes Morehead where "little spacemen" are attacking her and it turns out they are from earth... there are so many I like but these came to mind.

Geographic separation between family members happens with adults, because of job change or educational opportunity.  But it makes dealing with family problems much more difficult if they are more than one hour driving time away.

One of my favorite TZ episodes was call The Hunt (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunt_(The_Twilight_Zone)), about an old man and his dog that have a mishap during a 'coon hunt and find themselves dead, and the old man won't set foot in "heaven" without his dog. Turns out, that wasn't heaven after all.

Well, I dumped my stocks in April assuming the Orange Menace would screw the world economy, and I've gained by being in money markets.  And I bet I gain more until he is impeached or his tax forms are released.  Seriously, I got a 24 month CD at 3.15% last month.

Never touch gold though.  That's for gamblers.

Gold is insurance, not an investment.  If you have other insurance, then you will be fine.  Assuming the insurance company doesn't go bust.

Pretty much every economy in the world is crappified now, so there is no obvious place to put your investments.

Gold is a sucker's investment.  I break radio silence only because I hope you will not fall for gold investments.

Here's the deal.  The people who own most of the gold know what they are doing.  So if THEY are selling it, it is a bad investment sure to decrease in value.  Otherwise, they would keep it.  Right?

So don't buy on either the up or down market.  You are competing with experts and you will almost always be on the wrong side.  OK?

And if you are thinking, 'well, when the economy collapses, I'll have gold".  Don't be an idiot.  If things get that bad, you will want food and fuel, not gold.  Gold is a LUXURY, not a necessity.  You can't eat luxuries.

You tempt me to sarcasm...

But "Americans exchange diamond rings as part of the engagement process, because in 1938 De Beers decided that they would like us to. Prior to a stunningly successful marketing campaign 1938, Americans occasionally exchanged engagement rings, but wasn’t a pervasive occurrence. Not only is the demand for diamonds a marketing invention, but diamonds aren’t actually that rare. Only by carefully restricting the supply has De Beers kept the price of a diamond high."

I hope that is sufficient to disabuse your notion of diamonds having intrinsic value.

And gold works the same way.

Investment or speculation ... yes, don't do gold.  Insurance isn't either of those.  Gold is insurance against society collapse.  What are the odds of that?  Higher than I would like.  The US economy can end this year, surprised it didn't end in 2009.

Reading this post, "in for a dime, in for a dollar" I suppose.

You STILL said "Gold is insurance against society collapse."  Why?  Who wants gold when the question is food?  As in ancient societies, gold is only valued after you are not starving to death and can afford some decorations.  So in what way can you say that gold is useful after a modern societal collapse?

I can actually answer that.  The question is, can you?

Food isn't storable.  With gold I can buy the assistance of gangs to kill you and take your food.  Not that I want it to come down to that.  Your stocks and bonds can be burnt to heat your house which no longer has electricity or gas.  Republican Somalia is coming.

Why do you need a man i wonder? Is it just to come together when you wish?

i know some women like her.  Not bad people.  But the problem is ... compatibility.  Do you really want someone just like you, or someone who is the flip version of you?  For some, the ideal would be marrying their identical twin.

My ex, when single, managed to escape being single with a simple observation.  She will never find a man between her TV and her refrigerator.
