Title: Guys... this has never happened before
Post by: Hijiri Byakuren on October 29, 2018, 05:58:25 PM
My cats are sitting on my lap at the same time.

The overlords normally just do whatever they want to do. Occasionally they can stand each other well enough to share a lap.

Or have you put on enough weight that there's more room on your lap now?

My fluffy demon didn't like the new kids on the couch for the longest time, three years and a bit. Now they pile up when the mood strikes them.

Damned cats always laying on people.  My cat used to sleep on the foot of the bed, and when he decided it was time for me to get up, he wouldn't yammer or carry on.  He would just pace back and forth across my face making sure that each of his paws managed to step on my eye or my nose for maximum annoyance until I got up.

My two furry alarm clocks have 5 am tattooed on their little brains.  The two little ones (15 lb each) sleep under the covers--one for my wife, one for me--and when their own little alarm clock goes off, they crawl out onto the top of the bed.  Then they give wake-up kisses.   When I was working I got up then to get ready to go to work.  Still get up then; but my work is taking them for a long walk.  The big guy (75 lb) sleeps at the foot of the bed on the floor.  When he hears the kisses, he shakes--that is as good as an alarm clock.  No rest for the wicked.

May be it is just a coincidence, but our family cat who doesn't like close cuddling, sitting on humans or human lap at all, comes to my lap, sits and sleeps with me, licks, bumps by face and meows to my face whenever I am sad, feeling bad...etc. It's very easy to observe this, because she doesn't do it any of it in any other circumstances. I mean she sits beside me on a chair, but that's it.

I'm not the one to load special meanings or conciousness on animal behaviour, but the change is drastic. I think our pets are conditioned to our ordinary, normal behaviour. In a way they 'know' us and when we present even a slight difference, they kind of get that something is different. I don't mean 'knowing' or 'understanding' or even showing 'care', just reacting to a different situation that happens time to time. But it is in the end, 'attention' when you look at from human point of view.

You are probably going through something and I guess, feeling bad? (Your great grandma.) So from a romantic view, they are showing that they 'care' about their human.

PS I thought thought had an all white one, too? You had 3, didn't you? Or may be I remember it wrong.

My 37 pound tom sleeps with me. The Tiny Tiger wants brushed when she wants brushed! And Bonnie is just a cool cat.

They do vary as much as humans.

I once had two cats, both from the same litter.  They were as night and day in appearance and their personality differences were off the charts.  And while I kind of hate to admit it, I loved one, absolutely adored it, but mostly just fed the other because she wasn't a bad cat and deserved to be treated kindly, but bonding with me was never going to happen.

No, she bonds. I completely agree that they are all different. But this one among all the cats we have lived together since I have known myself is by far the coolest, most abstinate cat. He personality is like that. They are all street cats, we don't do breeds. Also I think street cats give various different reactions to living among humans. They either reject all other cats or get too stupidly friendly with them, lol. This is one is in the first group. She thinks she is one of the big cats, us. She can't stand other cats, treats them badly when she is staying at the summer house and gets beaten. Because the strays out there put up her antics up to a point and corner her occassionally.

One I had years ago -she was my grandma's and I got after she died- was some sort of a human species for example. I have never met a cat like her. Probably the most intelligent animal I have ever met. It was creepy. She was extremely warm and cuddly too. She died at 18. And among the first kittens we ever had there was one you'd be sure is actually a golden retriever pretending to be a cat if you met him. A lot of different personalities.

It's just, this one is our first cool cat. Other than that she actually is warm and bonding in her own terms. She is also very talkative, lol.

Never had an all white cat, but there was a second, older black cat. She died way back in January.

Titty sprinkles.

Practical experience says that feeding them usually solves that.  And assuming that the litter boxes are clean.

Never go to bed without cleaning the litter boxes first...

Maybe it is an atheist thing.  A theist might just pray the litter boxes are miraculously cleaned; good luck with THAT, LOL!

Unless you are praying for shit.  Many people do, without realizing it.

Must be getting chilly. Cats will put aside their differences when they just want to get warm.

That's a good theory if you don't know the cats, but these two couldn't be more chummy. Drang (the black one) has a history of never sitting on anyone's lap besides my younger brother's. Him sitting on my lap at all without me putting him there is the real unusual part. The fact that Sturm also happened to be there was just icing on the cake.

I dunno, I tend to keep the apartment on the cool side even in the winter, and Althea is only very rarely a lap cat.

However, as soon as I have settled myself into bed and cease moving, she climbs up onto me (back, side or front, she doesn't care) and conks out.

Since I turn down the thermostat at night, it gets chillier as the dark drags on.  That's when the cats go from sleeping all around me on the heated waterbed to seeking space under the covers with me for extra warmth.  Iza drapes over my hips, Marley curls up just off contact, and Ayla crawls up along my ribs and purrs.

And it never gets below 68F here.  My cats are wimps.  And I love it.
