Title: Trevor Noah on Weaponized Victimhood
Post by: Shiranu on October 04, 2018, 10:12:32 PM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LZ3P1sv9jE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LZ3P1sv9jE)

One of his inbetween the scenes where he talks to the audience "off camera" (T.V. wise), and he just absolutely nails it. A couple of good points...

Quote"It's a thing people take for granted... Trump's most powerful tool is that he knows how to wield victimhood. He knows how to offer victimhood to the people who have the least claim to it. The real victims of the #MeToo victim are men... there are alot of men who will take that message to heart."

Quote"What do you mean #MeToo has gotten out of control? We look through it, it's been maybe a hundred something people who have been held accountable. A hundred something. They make it sound like all men have been accused, but 99.9% of men haven't been accused. But the narrative has been made that it's all men that have been accused. But they make it feel like alot of people, because then what they do is they create an idea that all men need to band together because it could happen to you, and then men become victims. Because if you can convince men that they are the true victims of the me too movement, you get men to fight against a movement that is made to hold bad men accountable."

Quote"It's you who is the real victim. It's not the refugee from Syria, it's you whos gonna get blown up by a terrorist bomb! It's you who is the victim!"

My only disagreement is that he is focusing on Trump, when in truth this is par for the course with a large swath of politicians and "alt-right" bigots... that they scream about how everyone else wants to play the victim card while it is they themselves who paint themselves (and other white men) as the ultimate victims who are losing their way of life, their culture, their country, whatever.

edit - one more great quote from the video...

Quote"But if you can convince people that they are the victims when they are from a position of power, you have the most powerful tool that you can use. And the irony is those people who are in those positions want the people who are genuinely the closest to victimhood to relinquish their victimhood to join their "team".

If an American isn't a victim, then they need to be victimized.  And hard.  So they have something real to complain about.

But you are correct, the US is a Weimar Republic ... it has no long term future.  A nation of liars, frauds and thieves ... on a good day.  What it needs is a good Stalin or Hitler.

I'd be willing to settle for someone who makes the trains run on time.

Mussolini was a rapist.  So he will fit in well with the SCOTUS.

He needs to ditch his toupee, so he looks more like Lex Luthor.

Well, he might be better off turning off his eye-lasers...

Better photography gets the "red" out.  Or just don't use a flash.

I post pictures of the cats after cropping, doing the red eye removal, and adjusting the light and color saturation.  In other words, making them accurate again.  OK, its a cheap camera.  But I had a better one and I wasn't into f-stops and flash adjustments.  It actually works easier for me to do things after than before.

Post-processing is the future of politics too.

Wait until CGI becomes available to all.  Reagan will be kissing George Washington and people will believe that.

He might have been busy at the time.  My point is that CGI is getting so good that soon, we won't be able to tell any video from reality.  And didn't Brunner predict that in 'The Sheep Look Up'?  Or was it 'Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep'?  It is hard to keep some stories separate sometimes.  Anyway, there was a scene where a newshow guy shows a former competitor a CGI-like scene where his previous leader was involved in an orgy that never happened.  Sort of blew reality off the map.

BTW, one or another book like that had a scene where the Pres searched his notes for a response to a reporter's question saying "I think I have something 'comped' on that.  And I just realized this year or last that the author meant "computered'  and that was from the 80's.  And I swear I heard some politico use that term (comped) last week!

When Dr Who messes with our timeline ... things get all mixed up ... and then there are the Daleks etc.
