QuoteA man who posted a video of his girlfriend’s dog doing a Nazi salute on YouTube has been been convicted over the “grossly offensive†footage.
Mark Meechan, 29, who goes by the name Count Dankula, was arrested after footage of his girlfriend’s pug appearing to respond to Nazi slogans such as ‘gas the Jews’ went viral.
In a case that attracted widespread attention, Meechan was found guilty on Tuesday at Airdrie Sheriff Court of a charge under the Communications Act.
Sheriff Derek O’Carroll dubbed the video “grossly offensive†and said he did not believe Meechan had made it only to annoy his girlfriend.
After being put through endless court bullshit where they argued that he was a nazi trying to incite hatred they finally reached a verdict. He was just found guilty of 'mass offense.' Sentencing is going to be carried out in a month.
To summarize; a man who trained a dog to do a nazi salute as a prank on his girlfriend was just convicted of a crime for just that, and could face years in jail for said joke.
Again, he's been charged with 'intent to cause mass offense'.Also, it should be noted that a police officer was the one who started this case - and brought in someone to take the place of "I was offended by this."
Fuck the UK. Too bad you guys don't have guns, because your government is blatantly and unabashedly abusing the people. Your officials need to be forced out of power.
I think he deserves a year for that horrendous username...
But yeah, that's a little bit rediculous. At most, like some $50 fine or something, but even that's stretching it.

'intent to cause mass offense' is self-evidently an absurd thing to criminalize. There should be no fine, and no imprisonment. It's an abuse of power by the government to punish someone whatsoever for such dubious reasoning.

Hee, no, it's a LOT rediculous.
Slippery slope, a man gets arrested and fined or even facing jail time, because someone was offended by a tough in cheek joke.

Actual Jews weren't offended over there, so I am told. Actually arrest the whole English population for Irish, Scotch and Welsh jokes. Then deport them all to Denmark, Normandy and Frisia.

We've been mocking aspects of nazism in the uk for decades since those times,

I doubt you could even make the kind of jokes these early British comedies made back then in todays easily offended culture.
The French would be offended ... the comedy about the German occupation of France "Allo, Allo" used British actors instead of French actors. Cultural misappropriation, oui?

Thank goodness Britain isn't under German occupation, n'est pas? The French might come along later and make a comedy about it ;-))
Arrests for offensive Facebook and Twitter posts soar in London (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/arrests-for-offensive-facebook-and-twitter-posts-soar-in-london-a7064246.html)
QuoteAccording to the Register, a total of 2,500 Londoners have been arrested over the past five years for allegedly sending “offensive†messages via social media. In 2015, 857 people were detained, up 37 per cent increase since 2010.
The Communications Act 2003 defines illegal communication as “using public electronic communications network in order to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxietyâ€. Breaking the law carries a six-month prison term or fine of up to £5,000.
The figures, obtained from the Metropolitan police via a Freedom of Information request, only apply to the London area.

If you can't handle a joke, get out of the living room... I agree that many jokes are in horribly bad taste, but THAT'S WHAT MAKES THEM FUNNY. Jokes are all about stupidity, cruelly, and the absurd.
Tell me a good joke that doesn't make someone look stupid!

Any deviance from the approved narrative must be strongly discouraged.

Pr126 once said, his inner child is long dead. Mine is not, alive and kicking in my mental womb (can't have too many brain children). Call me Zeus.
See, like in the NT comment by Jesus about annoying brats, you are angry if people don't weep when you want them to, and don't laugh when you want them to.
Yes, no leader ... a land where everyone is king, then there is no king.

Even if this wasn't a joke there should be no legal consequences for "hate speech" unless it is a call to incite violence. Protecting hate speech is something America gets right.

As its been said, unless the act of speech is used to insight a reaction, like yelling fire in a crowded theater, or fake bomb threat in a school, then it should not be considered a crime.
Of course that would make certain Islamic preachers who call for the actual death of jews happy they can keep doing that.

Since life itself passes ... does that make everything OK?
They simply need to remove the entire population of the UK, and replace them with 50 million hard working Chinese employees of Apple. The ME/South Asian workers that Germany is importing won't stand a chance.
Ahh ye good Americans..never let it be said that our laws supersede every other nations laws.
The law is not always necessarily whatever you happen to read on Facebook or hear from a YouTube video.
The internet is loaded with people who are self proclaimed experts on all manner of law so much that if we didn't know better there would be absolutely no use for a well compensated attorney to handle our legal affairs.
Been charged with a crime you had no part in? No problem. Just ask anyone in the comments section of any old message board. Everybody is a legal egg-spurt these days ..

I think you have been sleeping decades in a giant Tupperware container ... "still fresh"! There was an attempt to assassinate FDR and a plan to coup de etat all in 1933 ... because of the crazy ancestors of the Koch brothers thinking that FDR was a Bolshevik. The Fed planned the Great Depression, FDR interfered.
It was the S Dems who opposed FDR on desegregation (which didn't happen until the 1960s ... so not FDR's fault). Back then Republicans were NE capitalists, like George W's father and grandfathers ... Knickerbockers and Wasps. Bag men for the Nazis (they were opposed to Jewish influence in the US, and anti-Soviet).
In the 1980s, Doonesbury was doing a strip on Conservatives hurting the last wild Liberal. Young people don't remember that 2009-2016 was ... totally unexpected.

Fact is, children will be malnourished and some will starve to death (as will some adults). Head Start is an attempt to do something about that, and EIC is too.

I am not assuming you are anti-FDR or anti-WPA. My grandfather was CCC. But the GOP actually declared that FDR was a Bolshevik, because while a wealthy scion himself, he didn't feel like killing and eating the poor, unlike Andrew Mellon (as told by Hoover). More likely the anti-poor view was from Hoover himself, as he was also harsh to the Bonus March ... put down by Gen McArthur.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Mellon ... seems a pretty typical Republican of his time. He seems guilty of typical poor judgement.
Usually people who complain about the heavy hand of the GOP (successor to Whigs, successor to Federalists) are Southern gentlemen ;-)
The fate of the original Occupy movement ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_Army
Maj Patton and Maj Eisenhower were involved. This negative publicity explains part of the press hatred of Patton. Eisenhower kept a lower profile always, the opposite of his old boss, Gen McArthur. Fanatic conservative elements felt that any effort to unseat Hoover was a communist conspiracy. And that led to the attempted assassination and planned coup.
