Liberal Democrat politician says schools should be able to suggest PROSTITUTION as a career to pupils (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3794462/Liberal-Democrat-says-schools-able-suggest-PROSTITUTION-career-pupils.html)
QuoteA Liberal Democrat councillor has told a party conference that schools could suggest prostitution as a career to pupils.
Dennis Parsons, who is chairman of the Cheltenham Liberal Democrats, made the comment during a special session on sex work.
The retired civil servant said school career officers are currently not allowed to mention prostitution as a potential line of work, but added: 'Why shouldn't they?'
Mr Parsons also compared prostitution with accountancy when discussing how to combat the stigma attached to sex work.
How progressive. Make prostitution great again.
Sex workers have to make a living, too.
I don't have any moral objections to sex for money. Exploitation of sex workers is an issue though, and that is a hard problem to solve.

Seems to have worked out OK for Melania.
I've met school teachers who worked as prostitutes, in Amsterdam. They were happy with the money they made, it allowed them to remain in their chosen-and-chronically-underpaid jobs.

I don't see anything wrong with prostitution. Study Nevada to see how well it can work. Legalize it and control it. That makes it much safer and saner. If one does not like prostitutes, then don't go to them.
Republicans want to control our pee-pees.

Portugal legalized drugs recently. So far so good.

I didn't know that. If I had my way, the US would legalize all drugs, too. But since the US declared war on drugs, there are too many making big bucks (and not only the suppliers of drugs--legal and otherwise) to stop the war, or to win it, even.

Since 2004. Why not in America? Americans are criminals, and not just for disobeying irrational "war on drugs" laws. Remember Prohibition? It never ended, they just shifted focus.
All sex work needs to be legal. Then make it safe with regulations. Then it's a career path like any other.
And the GOP can control what we do with our bodies even further. Not a fan.

Yes, that is working in Venezuela. Women there, even with PhD, are moonlighting as sex workers ... because they want to buy toilet paper.

What do you mean? Having sex work be illegal is far more controlling of what people can do with their own body than making it NOT illegal. Make it legal, so then we can put regulation in place that make it safe for women, which it currently isn't. All work is regulated to make it safe for the workers. If it wasn't the corporation would have the workers in horrible conditions, because all the corporate cares about is the profit margin.

I don't like this!! I agree 100%! Get the pimp and the disease out of the equation--healthier and saner for all.

You don't think that having laws regarding sex work won't make the Grim Old Party think up some right dandy laws?

Even if they did, it'd still be a net gain for people who want to have a right to do with their body as they please . Having it legal but with certain ways of practicing it illegal versus having it completely illegal.
Edit: But all work is regulated by the state. It is generally accepted as needed unless you're a libertarian. The alternative is having corporations exploit the worker utterly and completely, and surely you don't want that.
You took a hard turn there that I'm not going to follow.

As odd as it seems to me, many younger people seem to consider "the sex trade" as entirely legitimate. I don't think much of the idea, but it seems to be spreading.

Not that I approve of puritanism, but you can say one thing for it ... if a girl got pregnant without being married first, she was in trouble. If a young man got a girl pregnant without marrying her first, the girl's father terminated his future ability to father children ;-)
The problem with sex trade is something like doing it with multiple partners for free .. it is a simple invitation to STD. Yes, have your partner completely checked out, every time, even if you are married to them ;-)

Twenty years in the Navy, met hookers in lots of countries. Some not so happy, others entirely comfortable with themselves. I think we should study the various systems and see what would work here.

If prostitutes depended on just sailors, they would starve. Local trade is much more dependable.

Perhaps. Perhaps sailors are more experienced lovers ;-)
Having prostitution illegal gives, like with illegal drugs trade, power to criminals.
Having registered and legal prostitution, you can monitor it for health concerns (STDs) and protect prostitutes in a regulated setting, even tax it too.

True. But the government is criminogenic. It is what it is, not what you were taught in Civics 101. We are all slaves of the System ... watch some George Carlin.

Sailors (or anyone else) using the services of prostitutes aren't "lovers" by any sense of the word.

My ego didn't kick in because I don't claim that women love me more than Hugh Hefner. I never said so, I don't think it, and I wouldn't believe it if someone said it. Do you actually read posts before you create some odd reply to them?

I reply to all of your posts, not just one, because a picture you have painted of yourself, is alive in my mind, when I post. Of course you do the same.

That is very interesting. My avatar means nothing special other than an interest in human prehistory, while yours specifically refers to Spinoza. So what picture of me is "alive in your mind"?
I don't do the same. I reply to your posts based on whatever the newest one is. You aren't consistent or routinely serious enough to form a "picture of yourself".

ITs legal to sell things!
but its ILLEGAL TO SELL FUCKING!

personally I think legalizing and regulating it is a good idea.
