One reason they hate liberals is Roosevelt and Truman kept them out of the White House for 20 years. They had to go outside the ... clan ... to get a winner in Eisenhower. When he had had enough of politics they lost the White House again. They got it back only to have Nixon flee Washington to avoid trial by the Senate. So yeah, they don't like anyone who gets in their way.

Well, sure, liberal doesn't seem like a slur if all you look at are it's goals and accomplishments.  But look at it as a conservative.

OK, play the role of a conservative and imagine someone whispers in your ear, "Liberal."  Now imagine yourself suddenly triggered into rage of anger and hatred.  You can actually hear Rush Limbaugh in your mind, yelling that you can no longer own guns.  That everything that makes your life the pitiful excuse for existence that it is, is because of Anderson Cooper and the liberal media.

You see, the negative reputation of "liberal" is not based on what it stands for.  You respond to the word by your conditioning, put there by the people that program you.  They also tell you that Democrats are liberals, and that just about does it politically because you never knew the difference between  Democrat and Liberal, and now you are convinced they are the same thing.

Liberal comes from the word 'liberty'.  Conservative comes from conserving what was.  Liberals wanted to do away with the Divine Right of Kings.  Conservatives want to conserve that.  Liberals railed against Trump.  Conservatives want to make Trump a King by Divine Right.

And George Washington was a liberal (sort of), Girondist actually.  And a traitor.

The wingnuts use it for the FUD factor. Conservatives have trouble processing more than one word at a time, so just say "liberal" and they're angry/terrified/righteous.

The opposite of liberal is actually "reactionary."

The opposite of progressive is regressive.  But progressive isn't always good, think of "progressive cancer".  That is what cultural Marxism represents.  Victory of sociopathy.

No, there aren't any real liberals anymore, they are just Marxists LARPing as Democrats.

These extreme opposites ... that is why I am a centrist.  I really don't want to end up like Pinocchio at the naughty boy's carnival.

Liberals are cool.

Leftists are not.

Also, liberalism and conservatism are not diametrically opposed. One can be both. Conservatism is synonymous with right-wing, but liberalism isn't synonymous with left-wing. Liberalism is inherently centrist, centrist-left, or centrist-right. Communism is inherently left-wing, and yet they hate liberals, and in fact view liberalism as a type of conservatism.

Agree.  And a person can be liberal in one part of his/her life and conservative in others.

Just like the states, we're not 100% blue OR red.

Those on the Right seem to like equating Liberals with Communists/Socialists...

Yep.

And to the left, everyone who disagrees with them is -LITERALLY- a nazi.

If you identify with either wing, you've probably succumbed to trablistic thinking. And if you identify with either the democrat or republican party then you DEFINITELY have succumbed to tribalistic thinking.

Generally, when someone who identifies with one wing hears a criticism of their wing, even if the person doing the criticizing is also criticizing the other wing at the same time, they, like the reactionaries they are, go "BUT ____ WINGERS DO THIS."

When the right-wingers call you an SJW and the leftists call you a fascist, THAT's when you know you're in the sweet spot.

Liberals since 1960 have been communists (in the context of the Cold War).  In my parent's time anyone to the Left of J Edgar was considered a communist.  Which is why in spite of Vietnam, LBJ was considered by them, to be a communist .. not just starting with the campaign of McGovern.  My generation doesn't think that way, we have gone thru the Cold War and emerged out the other side.  The people of the 60s aren't liberals like the Founders (they were liberal in being republican, not democratic) ... they are liberals like Castro at best.  Socialist leaning toward 3rd World cultures.  Castro isn't comparable to Stalin or Mao.  The campus demonstrators of the 60s ... should have been all drafted to Vietnam ... according to my parents.  I am beginning to think they were right ;-(  Or is that just aging on my part?

Those on the Left seem to like equating Conservatives with Nazis/KKK ..

If you are ... one of those people ... and you know if you are or not ... then you need to have your citizenship revoked and your ass deported.  Doesn't matter if you were born here or not.  Now doesn't that sound swell?  Which side of the equation did you imagine that you were on, huh?

I'm "liberal" and I don't consider everyone else "nazis".  But that doesn't mean there aren't some...
