If I remember correctly, Texas (gov perry) did not want to help send any money to NJ for it's last hurricane.  Do you suppose TX wants some monetary help now?

Well, Duh?!  Everyone in NJ deserved what they got, but to Texas, this was an act of God for gay marriages in New Jersey.

I have a bunch of cousins living there as well.  Don't know why.  I mean, a nice day in Houston, weather wise, is like living in a hot-house.  Humidity is too high to measure.

I wouldn't say Trump ignored Harvey...

QuoteWASHINGTON â€" President Trump offered a fiery defense on Monday of his decision to pardon Joe Arpaio, the former Arizona sheriff, as Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas last week â€" and claimed he timed it to attract maximum attention as television viewers were glued to storm coverage.

In local news, he has been spending most of his time here in Texas talking about how great the crowds are and treating the whole Harvey disaster as a sideshow to boost his own coverage. And look, that's one thing for a celebrity do... shit, it's even one thing for a president to do it... but it is not presidential in the least to boast about it. If you don't feel bad for the victims, at least spend 5 minutes looking like you do and keep you fucking mouth shut.

What he is literally say is that Hurricane Harvey victims, the worst natural disaster to hit the most powerful state in the union, are all just tools to feed his ego and to bring more attention to the fact that he has yet again defended and pardoned extreme racism, this time not from third-party groups but from a government official. The worst part is this almost feels normal now, when this is absolutely not in the fucking least normal.

Thank God Joel Osteen and his mega church in Houston.  I'm sure his mega church is opening it's arms to the needy--and I'm sure he is opening all the rooms in his 10 million dollar home, as well.  There really is nothing quite as effective as christian giving!

Somewhat on the scene, anyways; he wasn't allowed to go to Houston, because everyone thought he would cause more harm than good.

Let that sink in that a president of the United States isn't allowed into a major city after a national tragedy because it's feared he will just make things worse rather than pulling things together. Not even Bush or Nixon was that despised.

It's not a new thing. Bush Senior wanted to come to San Diego when we were having flooding there, back in the '80s. The Governor told him to FOAD.

Interesting that a Houston businessman who owns a few furniture stores in the city has opened his showrooms up as a place of refuge for the flood victims.  This was done while Joel Osteen was whining that his mega church could not open because it was flooded.  I live within radio distance of Fresno, and they have a very conservative station (KMJ)--was running some errands and listened to it for a few minutes.  Two of their most conservative dj's were talking about Osteen and his mega church.  They were questioning why this perfect refuge was not open, why Osteen was lying about it and then talking about how some people were on the grounds of the mega church and were filming (with their phones) the dryness of the place.  They wanted to know why this tax free church was not open, since this church was able to handle over 16000 people, with shelter, water, sewer facilities, etc.  They really raked him over the coals, which surprised me a bit--in a good way.

Later, Osteen did open his mega church--the wonder of internet shame.  Doubt he will open any of his 10 million dollar mansion, tho.  Surely Jesus would not do that!

Bush Jr did so well, with Katrina.  If he had a brain cell, he would have stayed away too.  And Nixon was liberal compared to R leaders today ... not unlike Hillary actually ;-)

G H W Bush wasn't ever representative for California, let alone San Diego ... he represented Houston Texas in the US House, not the US Senate.  He was defeated twice in runs for the US Senate from Texas.  He was an early New England migrant to Texas after WW II.  His father served in the US Senate for Connecticut.  G H W Bush began his real rise in cabinet positions under Nixon and Ford, eventually being the running mate of Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984.

It was probably the security flail that killed the visit. Reagan was coming through San Diego airport once and my friends at airport security told us to leave our guns at home that day. We didn't have anybody of interest at that time so it was no sweat, but telling the Navy they're not trusted by the Secret Service was entertaining.

One does not need to be a minister or christian, or any thing other than human.  Clearly Osteen is not really human.  He is way to wealthy to feel the humanity of the humans he frauds money out of.  Humans are helping other humans in Houston now.  Theology is not needed.

I expect the aftermath will be worse than the storm and flooding. Because Republicans are in charge there - though I'm not sure that Democrats would do much better. I do hope they can at least avoid a cholera outbreak, but all that water has to be about as filthy as water can get, and now there's all those toxic chemicals to worry about.

I just heard that Chump's declared Sunday to be a "national day of prayer" for the victims of the storm. Yeah, that's the way to deal with the tragedy - ask God for help. As if God didn't allow the damn storm in the first place.

We know he didn't, since he doesn't exist, but millions of people believe he does exist, and if he did exist it was him that brought the storm - that's why they call them "acts of God." So pray to him for relief - sure, that'll work...

As a result of Harvey hitting Texas, NC has declared a state of emergency (http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article170667557.html).

We're not flooded or burning or anything.  We just have much higher gas prices, since damage to refineries in Texas and Louisiana reduced our gas supply.  Good ol' supply and demand working its magic.  The state of emergency is just to temporarily waive some restrictions for trucks carrying gasoline so we can get more faster.

We also have our buttcheeks puckered for Hurricane Irma, which may or may not slam right into us.

I always hate it when gas prices go up, but I also remember when it was over $4.00 a gallon, and no one declared a state of emergency.  Anything under $3.00 doesn't alarm me to a great extent.  However, watching prices go up is always scary to me, be it gas or a bottle of ketchup.  We have had a wonderful respite in gas prices for the last several years, and I am not looking forward to returning to $80 a tank.  That hurts.  State of emergency, seems like an odd response right now.  It's all relative, I suppose.  Poor people live in a personal state of emergency all the time.

It's not an emergency emergency.  It's just that's what you have to do as Governor to speed up gas shipments when there's a supply shortfall.

The article (https://www.express.co.uk/news/weather/848456/Hurricane-Irma-path-map-storm-hit-New-York-USA) that image is from ran with this headline:  "Hurricane Irma path: Foreboding 15-day weather map shows terrifying storm may hit NEW YORK"

New York in ALL CAPS FOR EMPHASIS.

Meanwhile, the first two sentences of the body:  "A new ensemble map reveals the highest pressure will hit North and South Carolina, and Virgina, half way down the coast to Florida.

An area of very high pressure will also hit Maine, New Hampshire ad Massachusetts before going inland to New York, the map currently shows."

So, it might hit pretty much the whole Eastern Seaboard but NEW YORK gets top billing?  Sure, it's a british audience who may or may not be familiar with the less popular US states, but jeez guys at least mention Florida first.

You do the chemistry, Dr Mengele.  I simply inverted the original snark idea "might even kill Republicans" because people here would take that literally.

Mebbe.  But *I* wasn't snarking Republicans OR even Nazis there.  Appropriate comments matter.

I have very little Texas pride, but H.E.B. is something all Texans (and frankly all Americans, even if they don't have one outside of Texas) should be proud of. One of the few corporations with morals and integrity.

My sister in Chicago is attending a workshop at the Humane Society for potential foster parents of rescued dogs from Hurricane Harvey.  I just read the same thing is going on in San Francisco.  She doesn't have a dog, but she and her husband babysit friend's dogs on occasion and love it when they get the chance.  I hope this will be a pleasant experience for them.  I told her to pick a nice one, because she will probably end up keeping it.  But she said they have been warned that they may have to give them back if they find the owners.  It sounds like there must be a lot of these dogs that have been separated from their owners.

It is a conservative denial.  "What they don't want to be true can't be real".

Ah, but the governments in 1st world want to outlaw that.  They want you to line up for your "rectal exam" first.

Anthropogenic Global Warming?  Yep, can't be happening.  It would be bad for business and God would not allow THAT!
