Title: We have a new Doctor...
Post by: trdsf on July 16, 2017, 06:58:10 PM
...and it ain't one like the ones we've had before (http://www.bbc.com/news/av/entertainment-arts-40626273/doctor-who-s-13th-time-lord-unveiled).

I'm on board with this.  I always have a policy of giving the new Doctor a fair chance anyway.  And the first encounter with Missy ought to be interesting.  :D

Please let it be Gal Gadot.

It was inevitable given the Master/Missy's trans-*coughs*-formation.

But who will be the new Master?  Missy has gone missing.

I'll reserve thoughts on it for now. Makes me wonder how their play up any romantic involvement, or sudo romance as is the doctors way

I want there to be none.  That was the reason I hated the direction they went with Tennant and Billie Piper.  That's where I draw my line -- not at the gender or color of the Doctor, but that it's not a romance.  The original intention of the show was to be at least partly educational -- they were going to alternate stories between future/science fictional and historical, and try to keep the science and the history more or less right.  Well, along came those psychotic pepper pots and that idea went away.

I had to look up Gal Godot -- she was unlikely in the extreme; I think the BBC has an informal (and maybe even a formal) rule that the Doctor shall be an actor from Great Britain.  All fourteen have been from England or Scotland, including Hurt and Whittaker.

Well its subjective, I always liked the rose and doctor storyline, even got kinda weepy how that ended. I also really liked Donna Noble, but probably because I'm a fan of Catherine Tate

Loved Donna, probably my favorite companion of New Who, or at worst second to Captain Jack.

Hate RTD for what he did to her.  Yeah, let's put her on a season-long personal journey and watch her grow and develop as a character, then reset her right back to the rather unpleasant person she was before all that development.  That was where I reached the "don't let the door hit you in the ass" point with RTD.

Yeah that did suck, guess they always look for creative ways to expire companions, just this time it was very finale for her without killing her.

Let the new Doctor have no connection to the past.  No old friends to visit.  Just start new.  And dress bizarrely...

The good Doctor seems to be getting younger and younger over time.
If this trend continues, is the Doctor soon to become a sperm and egg?

It is going the right direction, but she should be a black, lesbian and transgendered feminist.
And a pink pussy hat! Or a hijab. Linda Sarsour as the companion.
I forgot. Should be a 400 lb obese beauty. Piercings and tattoos optional.
Blue hair and black lipstick is a must.
Now that's progressive.

As I say, I'll remain to see if this is bad or not, I like shows and movies with strong female leads, like Steven universe, star vs the forces of evil, and wonder woman, and these shows and movies are able to present female leads without it coming off as some anti male pro feminist agenda. If this does become the latter though, then it's just another product the sjw agendas gotten its grubby mitts on and ruined not for clever writing, but to break down anything with white male characters in it.

I have stopped watching Dr Who since Smith departed. It was the writing that put me off.
Could not make heads or taild of the stories.

I always found them a bit puzzling, like "Col Mustard with the candle stick in the library" ... too much Arthur Conan Doyle influence?  That and the "How To Understand Brit" guide gets in my way unless I can pause the tele.

I spent his whole tenure as the Doctor waiting for him to do the creepy tongueflick thing.  :D

I'm trying to recall the sequence... they announced Tennant as the new Doctor, then Goblet of Fire was released, then his tenure as The Doctor began.  I definitely watched GoF in the knowledge that the big bad was the next Doctor--and Barty Sr was played by Roger Lloyd-Pack, who created the Cybermen in the new continuity, so GoF was rather Who-heavy.

I just wonder how Israel got all those Poly Jews in that one movie.

I want an outrageously-dressed-and-acting DR like the good old days.  The last one was boring...

This is what I love about the new Dr Who.   Even people that don't watch it and have no vested interest in it have an opinion that they think matters.

I'm not even sure who the new Dr Who IS!

Keep to your cave paintings.  They seem to move in the flickering torch light ;-)  Plato will give you a thumbs up.

THe last I saw of The Doctor, he was reborn on Christmas Planet.  I'm vguely curious about him.  When are new episodes on (yeah I could look it up).  But I want someone to tell me why I should watch again...

Let me get caught up again and I'll see what I can do.  I still greatly prefer classic Who to new Who, so I don't want to promise, although I always like to give a new Doctor their fair chance.

The "classic Who to the new Who"?  Best quote I've seen all week!  Acorns to you (that's a good gardening forum thing).

There isn't nearly as much controversy as the press would have us believe.  I'm just annoyed she's young again.  I liked Capaldi because he was like Hartnell and Pertwee.

Oh, agreed.  It was nice having a Doctor my age, rather than one young enough to be my son (or I guess daughter now).

Given that the previous Drs never particularly emphasized their maleness, I bet the new female one will have to be very female...  I'll be happy to wrong.
