Title: Asylum in the U.S
Post by: Beyourself22 on April 18, 2017, 10:39:57 AM
Hi all, I want to seek asylum in the U.S. I am from Saudi arabia which is a country with the highest death penalties. I am an atheist a non belvier in the most oppresive and non tolarent country in the middle east.

I feel like its getting harder and harder to hide myself. My parents never see me pray. Everytime someone asks me a religous question i chock and do not know what to say. I also want to be able to be free to express myself and marry a woman who is as open minded as I am.

I am not sure if I have enough of a reason to seek asylum but at the same time I do not want to wait until my life is in danger to seek asylum. Saudi had the highest rate of excutions during 2016 and the law is derived from sharia law and the holy quran. I get really careless a lot of times and refuse to pray when someone tells me to.  Also, under the law athiests are considered terrorists. The reason why I want to seek asylum in the US is because I have a student visa and got my bachelor's degree from there.

I have the following questions:

1/ would my case hold up as a good enough reason to seek asylum?

2/ what are the procedures I would have to go through after seeking asylum in the US.?

3/ how long would it be before I work?

4/ how much money should i save to seek asylum?

5/ I am worried that if I seek asylum then get rejected then I'll have to go back to my country and get punished for seeking asylum.

Ps, please if you have been through similar situation provide me with your input. You can also message me privately.

I would say try Canada or Europe.  Saudi Arabia is, unfortunately, on our "good guy" list, and we don't accept asylum seekers from "good" countries since they are supposedly good and therefore you don't need asylum.

Contact consulate for country X in your home country.  You may need asylum ... and good luck.

I agree Canada is the best place to seek safety.  The US is a bit off-standard under Trump.  Try us again in 2020.
