Title: Trump budget plan
Post by: fencerider on March 16, 2017, 08:07:31 PM
Trump released his budget plan. What do you think of it? Is it a republican wet-dream? Is it the work of a crazy man? Is it the work of an idiot? Is it the beginning of a police state?

Overal plan is to cut the size of government while at the same time increasing military spending. That means lots of cuts to other things.

A short list:
Increase military spending to $650 billion
EPA 30% budget cut
State Dept 29% budget cut
National Institute of Health block grant $500 million to the states
National Endowment for the Arts dissolved
National Endowment for Humanities dissolved
Appalachian Regional Commision dissolved
Delta Regional Authority dissolved

wall funded by cuts to TSA and Coast Guard

Trump can propose whatever draconian budget he wants to. It's the congress who actually writes it. They can ignore any and every "proposal" he puts forth, if they choose. So it will be them who have to answer, for dismantling 70 years of progress. He's just a rubber stamp.

Also, you forgot to mention the 9 billion dollar cut to the Department of Education.

When the money runs out, the Americans will have to go back to the fields and live off of over-ripe vegetables and potatoes ... like the Russians did in 1991-92.

I would love to think you are right.  But I fear not.  Trump will be with us for at least 4 yrs.  That is how sick this country has become.

didn't forget it. missed that one. I was listening to the radio at work. I didn't hear all the details of the budget.

You can add more details if you have them...

I don't want to sidetrack the thread, but Trump's proposed budget cuts, for the Department of Education, may become moot very soon:

Like I said, the Republican Congress is our real problem.

you know what happens when kids drink too much Kool-Aid. They get a little crazy until an adult steps in. But I think uncle Schumer is passed out on the back couch. Don't expect uncle Mitch to straighten anything out

Its not just the budget. The republitards that are in Congress right now heard that "everybody hates Obamacare. So let's make it worse"

I keep hearing people say this, but it's usually the same people who said he'd never get in the WH in the first place...

I suspect that by the time he does something so bad as to be in danger of impeachment, the GOP will also be so implicated that they'd never be able to convict him without convicting themselves.

Trump's health care plan will not pass for one very important reason:

If they say yes to it, they know for certain they will be voted out of office next year.

I doubt they're planning on letting any more elections happen. I don't know how they'll stop it - maybe a "national emergency" will allow them to suspend elections. I hope I'm wrong, as I probably am.

I am good with that ... registered D and R folks shouldn't vote ... anymore than drunks should be allowed to drive.

Ha, ha, ha ha, ha! You guys are so cute! You think that the American people are collectively capable of making an informed decision, in the unprecedented new age, of ambiguity, innuendo and obfuscation, led by Fox News, and the right-wing-radio brainwashing.

https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/general/reports/2007/06/20/3087/the-structural-imbalance-of-political-talk-radio/

QuoteOur analysis in the spring of 2007 of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the top five commercial station owners reveals that 91 percent of the total weekday talk radio programming is conservative, and 9 percent is progressive.
Each weekday, 2,570 hours and 15 minutes of conservative talk are broadcast on these stations compared to 254 hours of progressive talkâ€"10 times as much conservative talk as progressive talk.
A separate analysis of all of the news/talk stations in the top 10 radio markets reveals that 76 percent of the programming in these markets is conservative and 24 percent is progressive, although programming is more balanced in markets such as New York and Chicago.

https://newrepublic.com/article/119922/pew-survey-finds-conservatives-mostly-watch-fox-news

QuoteIt comes from a new survey by the Pew Research Center, which surveyed 2,901 people and divided them into five categoriesâ€"“consistently liberal,” “mostly Liberal,” “mixed,” “mostly conservative,” and “consistently conservative”â€"based on 10 questions about their political values. Among consistently conservative respondents, 47 percent chose Fox News as their main source “for news about government and politics.” The next largest group, 11 percent, chose local radio.

Inequity anyone?

I love PBS. I used to watch it a lot, when I had cable. Now I just have the antenna, and Chicago(WTTW) is too far.

PBS has a channel on YouTube called Spacetime, it's more supported by patreon now so at least it's got that going for it. I would be fairly disappointed if that went away.

No ... hundreds ... British English isn't that hard to follow ... PBS is colonial imitation of the real thing ... 100s made by BBC on all subject, many much more intelligent than anything dumbed down for the American viewers ...
