I read a recent history of the NSA, that covers up until the mid-70s ... so I already knew this, in old style print. What the police state has now is just a technical update from what they had in the 70s, when they promised to stop doing what they were hired to do. The funny thing is, for the last 40 years, so many schlubs have believed their promises. Even the modus vivendi between the US and the Soviet Union then, is still the foreign policy (Intel portion anyway) the US follows now.

CNN is reporting that the Feds are opening a criminal probe to try to determine the source of the leaked documents. The article says that "officials" have confirmed the documents are largely genuine, but are still trying to confirm if all of them are, if they have been altered, and if there are more that haven't been released.

As far as I'm concerned Powell gave up any credibility he may once have enjoyed when he lied to us about Iraq's WMDs. I can no longer believe anything he says.
