Title: Indo-Europeans vs Cavebears
Post by: Baruch on February 25, 2017, 08:02:23 PM
Drenched in rhetoric and politics, how can we do scholarship in anthropology?

An interesting exercise, in the use and abuse of Baysian statistics.

Statistics, Baysian or not, is a powerful tool, it doesn't give meaning ... just as statistical analysis of code messages don't decode them, on its own.  Statistics abstracts the data, and the meaning unfortunately lies in the part that the abstraction throws out.

Damn straight!  You want a cave bear out of the cave, you better build a big fire to smoke it out and then be out of the way when it leaves.  We probably just killed all the cubs...
