Title: Donald Trump... You Bought It
Post by: Shiranu on February 19, 2017, 10:21:04 PM
You might want to send this to anyone in your family, or anyone you know, who voted for Trump. (Thanks to Rosa Figueroa who posted this in response to one of my posts yesterday.)

1. He called Hillary Clinton a crook.
You bought it.
Then he paid $25 million to settle a fraud lawsuit.

2. He said he'd release his tax returns, eventually.
You bought it.
He hasn't, and says he never will.

3. He said he'd divest himself from his financial empire, to avoid any conflicts of interest.
You bought it.
He is still heavily involved in his businesses, manipulates the stock market on a daily basis, and has more conflicts of interest than can even be counted.

4. He said Clinton was in the pockets of Goldman Sachs, and would do whatever they said.
You bought it.
He then proceeded to put half a dozen Goldman Sachs executives in positions of power in his administration.

5. He said he'd surround himself with all the best and smartest people.
You bought it.
He nominated theocratic loon Mike Pence for Vice President. A white supremacist named Steve Bannon is his most trusted confidant. Dr. Ben Carson, the world's greatest idiot savant brain surgeon, is in charge of HUD. Russian quisling Rex Tillerson is Secretary of State.

6. He said he'd be his own man, beholden to no one.
You bought it.
He then appointed Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education, whose only "qualifications" were the massive amounts of cash she donated to his campaign.

7. He said he would "drain the swamp" of Washington insiders.
You bought it.
He then admitted that was just a corny slogan he said to fire up the rubes during the rallies, and that he didn't mean it.

8. He said he knew more about strategy and terrorism than the Generals did.
You bought it.
He promptly gave the green light to a disastrous raid in Yemen- even though all his Generals said it would be a terrible idea. This raid resulted in the deaths of a Navy SEAL, an 8-year old American girl, and numerous civilians. The actual target of the raid escaped, and no useful intel was gained.

9. He said Hillary Clinton couldn't be counted on in times of crisis.
You bought it.
He didn't even bother overseeing that raid in Yemen; and instead spent the time hate-tweeting the New York Times, and sleeping.

10. He called CNN, the Washington Post and the New York Times "fake news" and said they were his enemy.
You bought it.
He now gets all his information from Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, and InfoWars.

11. He called Barack Obama "the vacationer-in-Chief" and accused him of playing more rounds of golf than Tiger Woods. He promised to never be the kind of president who took cushy vacations on the taxpayer's dime, not when there was so much important work to be done.
You bought it.
He took his first vacation after 11 days in office.
On the taxpayer's dime.
And went golfing.

And that's just the first month.

Anyone running for office is a politician ... and you get what you vote for (if you are a voter) and you might get what you pay for (if you are a plutocrat).  Sad seeing all the political toddlers waking up from their nap all cranky.

I'm not sure what the point of this overly elaborate post is. I'm pretty certain that like maybe 1 or 2 people on this entire forum would have voted for trump, and even then haven't exactly expressed the fact they have, so who is this even aimed at?

Saint Hillary is so opposite Devil Trump.  Not.  We will get 365 posts per day, 365 days per year, until President Pence takes over ... by all the Butthurt D and R people.

Also, what business is it of ours who our family and friends vote for? My mother voted for the conservative party here, a party that in the past hasn't done much to represent gay rights, but her reasons are just on how he can't stand current labour, and I don't judge her for it.

It's pretty much hindsight at this moment anyway, since your only assuming Hillary would be better since trump won. At least be proud of the fact your country has a democracy, and your not being hunted down and arrested for posting negative comments about your countries leader, unlike in north Korea.

It's fairly common to see criticisms of stuff that very few posters support - jihadism, theocracy, creationism, global warming denialism, etc.  I see no compelling reason why right-wing politics, especially the Trump brand, should be spared the same treatment.

Besides, sometimes "preaching to the choir" is useful in reminding people of things that they may have overlooked or in reaffirming a conclusion that people might've been iffy on.

QuoteIt's pretty much hindsight at this moment anyway, since your only assuming Hillary would be better since trump won.
Some of us have been arguing that waaay before Trump won.  And wouldn't you know it, it seems like it was entirely accurate given recent events.

QuoteAt least be proud of the fact your country has a democracy
A democracy with many flaws, ranging from corporate "speech" dwarfing the public's voices, skewed primaries, an archaic and intentionally antidemocratic electoral vote system, systematic bias against third parties, etc.

It's understandable to take pride in getting an A+.  It's less understandable to take pride in getting a C+ because someone else got an F-.

Please give me one good reason to think Hillary would have been as bad as Trump, and I will live stream me shoving a pineapple up my ass while whipping myself and wearing a horse mask.

Pr, is that you? Is Munich your alter ego so you can say North Korea instead of Saudi Arabia?

Seriously, what is this facination with saying, "Well, shitty country did x, so let's do y (which isn't quite as bad but still sucks donkey balls) and pat ourselves on the back because we are better than them!". I really don't get it.

That sounds like such a delightful challenge, but just like hindsight, you can't look into the multiverse and see the possibilities. Even if I present a list of possible outcomes to her presidency, your just counter each point, and the pineapple sits unused in the fruit bowl.

Also I can assure you, pr is his own entity.

OP may be preachin to the choir, but lets put it in perspective.

I happen to know a few republicans who like what Trump is doing. They say he's doing a good job. I even heard one of them say yesterday that he's the best president we've had in years and he may be remembered as the best president in our history.

I don't know what these people are smokin, but I definitely gotta stop by their house and get me some. They musta got some really good stuff

I have.

You'd be surprised at the number of them without people and other, darker things live here instead.  You can sometimes glimpse them out of the corner of your eyes but most people tune it out.  The people who don't tune it out well mostly just get frequent headaches or insomnia.

A lot of common spelling errors and misremembered historical facts are actually from people who were relocated from doomed worlds where that was the correct recollection.  One night, you're asleep and the next morning, you're in a 99.99% identical reality.  People get shuffled around a lot.

Also, a surprisingly large percentage of the human-inhabited Earths have China as the world's foremost superpower.  Especially post-WWII.  Also, theism is relatively uncommon.

Btw, this is Universe Golf Pigeon Vomit.  Universes are named with passphrases now because alphanumeric schemes grew too complex and too difficult to remember.  This universe is a pretty big departure from the norm.  As the name suggests, it's not a popular place.  It's the universe other people hope they aren't relocated to.  It's not the absolute worst, but it's towards the bottom of the good ones.

From the article:  "While 60 percent of Republicans in May said all candidates should release their returns, 20 percent last week said they care that Trump hasn’t released his returns."

Hmm...quite the backpedal there.  I wonder what changed between May 2016 and January 2017 that made them change their minds?

According to a a pew poll (http://www.people-press.org/2017/01/10/negative-views-of-trumps-transition-amid-concerns-about-conflicts-tax-returns/) taken in January, 60% of respondents say that Trump has a responsibility to release his tax returns (though interestingly, 79% of Dems say he has a responsibility while only 38% of Republicans say he has a responsibility).

Quite a discrepancy here between the Republicans and everyone else.  One wonders why that's the case.

I heard this last night on Fresh Air, thought y'all might enjoy it:

Journalist: Trump Is 'Openly Dismissive' Of The Intelligence World (http://www.npr.org/2017/02/22/516649798/journalist-trump-is-openly-dismissive-of-the-intelligence-world)
QuoteMark Mazzetti of The New York Times says that when it comes to national security, President Trump "doesn't trust the civilian national security establishment and they don't trust him."
QuoteThe Trump administration began at this extraordinary moment where you had intelligence agencies and law enforcement and now the Senate Intelligence Committee examining the efforts, as they say, by Russia to sabotage the last election through cyberattacks, propaganda, etc. About a month before President Trump took office, you had this assessment by the intelligence agencies that Russia had carried out these attacks. That was met with a great deal of resistance by, then, President-elect Trump who dismissed some of the conclusions.

And so you began the administration with this tension between Trump and the intelligence agencies. But it's not going away because, as I said, you have these ongoing looks at exactly what Russia did in advance of the election and also investigations into any ties that existed between the Trump team and the Russian government or associates of the Russian government. And it's the beginning of all this. So it's really unclear, at this point, where those investigations go.

Yes, they prevented Pearl Harbor, Korea, Vietnam, 9/11 ... got the facts right on Saddam, predicted the fall of the Soviet Union ... batting 100% they are.  How long did it take them to find Osama, if that was him and not one of his look-alike sons?  If it was a son, the mother's genes would have been different in him than Osama's ... maybe ;-(

PS nobody was complaining in 2008 ... it was just revealed that McCain was begging the Russians for campaign money then.  Why weren't the CIA death squads out then?

Yeah, TJ and the rest of the Drunken Peasants were pretty soft on Trump, avoiding criticizing the guy's anticipated policies and claiming that liberals were jumping the gun by blasting a guy who wasn't even in office yet.  The usual refrain was "Give him a chance.  Let's wait and see".

And now that we've seen, they have been far more critical.  Paul's Ego found out about the torture policy and said "fuck this guy", which I think is an appropriate reaction to a policy that monstrous.  Ben and Scotty have made similar remarks.  TJ, who's usually pretty strident in criticizing what he sees as stupidity, seemed to be uncharacteristically reluctant to criticize Trump.  Even after the election, Clinton has been the recipient of most of his vitriol.  It took awhile, but I think it's finally dawning on him that Trump is shaping up to be the worst President of our lives.

That's OK.  Wasting votes on 3rd party candidates is ALWAYS completely legitimate.

R people Zeig Heil with their right arms, D people Zeig Heil with their left arms.  What part of ... it is immoral to support totalitarianism ... do you not understand ;-)  Both parties and party leaders lie ... politics is impossible without lying.  That and always credulous voters.

That is an interesting question.  Who DID we vote for?  I voted Clinton, expecting rational government and good international relations.

If you voted for Clinton, why?  And if you voted for Trump, why?  It seems a fair question.

Voting D or R is immoral.  If it was illegal to be immoral, then the D and R voters should be expelled, just like the illegal aliens.  I would pull their citizenship, even if born here or naturalized, and deport all of them to Mexico.  Fortunately, probably because politics is immoral to begin with, we will never see immorality made illegal ... except for the more icky things like pedophilia.

Civil asset forfeiture is anti-Constitutional.  It is legal in many jurisdictions.  Arizona now wants to expand civil asset forfeiture to things other than illegal immigration and drug running ... to include public demonstrations.  Yes, we ain't got no Constitution.

Your initial premise is false (immoral to vote R or D).  Therefore the rest of your statement is of no concern to me.

That's more or less how I do things.  How well I actually follow that saying is of course a bone of contention, but I'm pretty happy with a moderate, reformist position that attempts to tackle problems in a realistic way and advance a better world in a step-by-step process than the extreme proposals guided purely by ideology with little worry if everything's going to work as intended that I see coming from all corners of the political spectrum.

I see a lot of that with the far left, but I also see it with the Republicans, who represent a far more mainstream ideology.  For example, dealing with the problem of teenage pregnancy with abstinence-only sex ed.  Dealing with marijuana use with prohibition and Drug War policy enforcement.  Meeting energy needs with a Drill, Baby, Drill approach.

I think Americans should definitely take a a moment to assess the current situation, compare it to a future goal, and look at ways of realistically making that future goal a reality.  Unfortunately, a lot of us are not on the same page on any of those things.

This isn't a matter of liberal or conservative anymore. It's a matter of having a mad man at the helm, a self confessed serial sexual predator, a clueless pathological liar who's only interest is lining his own pockets and those of his family. A man who is hell bent on pissing off the last few friends the US has in the world and who thinks isolationism is the cure for what ails you. Yeah, that's the galling thing - this blow to any notion of a just-world hypothesis.  Everybody knows this guy is a consummate liar and conman above and beyond what we're already used to with our politicians, among other unsavory qualities (https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/brainstorm/201701/shrinks-battle-over-diagnosing-donald-trump).  Yet instead of these traits being punished, they're rewarded.  And extremely generously rewarded at that - elevated to the highest office in the country.  And elevated to that position by one's fellow countrymen, who presumably approve of such qualities.

And then there's this wave of troglodytes (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/11/richard-spencer-speech-npi/508379/) who have risen in his wake.  They think they own this country now.

It's a lot take in.

We have a lot of work ahead of us.

Ouch, are you a disillusioned idealist turned cynic? Thanks for the compliment (if it was one) but I am still for the separation of church and state. You know where I stand regarding religion, we had long debates about that.
Question for you: who would YOU like to see as POTUS?

Already told you ... Gary Johnson, but nation of idiots ...

I voted for Gore, a rational and thoughtful person.  I voted for Obama, a rational and thoughtful person.  I voted for Clinton, a rational and thoughtful person.  And 2 of 3 times we got Bush Jr, a relative simpleton; and Trump, a truly crazy person.

I would blame the voters, except for Gore and Clinton, they got more votes.  It is the Electoral College System that is failing us.

Go check if the Clinton Foundation has any money for you, before they close their vault for good.  And good news, Obama is opening his Obama Foundation, to pay for his Presidential Pyramid and other things, lots of other things.  He might throw you some shekels.

Obama not running (thank G-d), Bush Jr not running (thank G-d), Bill not running (thank G-d), Hillary and Trump on the ballot ... no way Jose to either of the corruption twins.  Stein wasn't on the ballot, but after her post-election carpet munch of Hillary, just as well.  That leaves Gary.  I do vote for other Third parties down ticket, when available.  I always vote against sitting judges.  They need more exercise ;-)

Policy wise, Johnson was midway between Hillary and Trump ... so not so bad either way.  It is called a Political Center ... you Nazis/Stalinists.

Actual good people never run for office.  I would hope that is why you haven't done so.  I really don't care about getting competence in office, as much as avoiding evil in office.  So far I am batting zero ;-(

Well Baruch I think Trump worships the Twitter god. He accept everything from Twit-R as the absolute truth except when people talk badly about him.

I try to become more mature, more smart ... every year.  For some people, they get to 12 years old, and stop.  Politics isn't the solution to any problem.  If you need a job, go get one ... or start your own company.  Nobody is going to hand you anything.  And working for the government, or for a government contractor, is a part of that.  Of course it is probably true, that the more of the GDP the government soaks up, the less there is for the real economy.  The government is always about digging holes and filling them up again.  Non-productive work of one kind or another.  I have always been able to offer more to a government contractor, than to a regular employer.  And I don't want to be self employed.  I know people who are self employed.  Not trying to be a saint nor a sinner ... just putting a frozen dinner in the microwave.  There are Horatio Algers out there, but they mostly go bankrupt after 5 years.  They are self employed because they can't stand working for anyone else, nor can anyone stand them as an employee.  Bad enough if they are a vendor.  Basically comes down to ... what is the purpose of human beings, and what is the purpose of society.

Well, I'm just really bad at asking for money...  I CAN guarantee both competence AND not being evil though.

Here's an interesting bit of news:

Here's the page in question:

An Update On Information Operations On Facebook (https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2017/09/information-operations-update/)

QuoteThere have been a lot of questions since the 2016 US election about Russian interference in the electoral process. In April we published a white paper that outlined our understanding of organized attempts to misuse our platform. One question that has emerged is whether there’s a connection between the Russian efforts and ads purchased on Facebook. These are serious claims and we’ve been reviewing a range of activity on our platform to help understand what happened.

In reviewing the ads buys, we have found approximately $100,000 in ad spending from June of 2015 to May of 2017 â€" associated with roughly 3,000 ads â€" that was connected to about 470 inauthentic accounts and Pages in violation of our policies. Our analysis suggests these accounts and Pages were affiliated with one another and likely operated out of Russia.

We don’t allow inauthentic accounts on Facebook, and as a result, we have since shut down the accounts and Pages we identified that were still active.

Yes, a mere $50k ads in Facebook (run by the NSA) was enough to sway an election that spent what, $2b total?  Americans are easily bought.  Russia should have just offered us some beads and we would have sold them Manhattan ;-)

Meanwhile Hillary continues to blame everyone, except herself.

The NSA had nothing to do with the election, unless you have some evidence.  Put up or shut up.
