Title: The unintelligence of AI
Post by: Baruch on February 16, 2017, 07:30:55 PM
Tay, the teenage chatbot from a year ago, from Microsoft? Good example of what AI does when exposed to humans … it became a raving racist and Nazi. Microsoft had to shut it down after just a few days. They have a new chatbot now, Zo. Like all AI going back to the original chatbot, Eliza, an AI rogerian psychotherapist … it is human anthropomorphic projection, and fraud. There is no intelligence in a machine, unless somewhere, sometime, there was a human in the loop. The programer is not necessarily a good example of intelligence. The Google car that ran a red light, was not truly independent, it was teleoperated by a human driver.

I found an on-line version of Eliza. It said that what I said to it was interesting. So I stopped while I was ahead. And I didn’t have the heart to turn it into a raving Nazi ;-)  I chatted with it like I chat with real people here.

How does that work? I am a person in the loop, directly. The programmer is a person in the loop, indirectly. So in chatting with Eliza, I am indirectly talking to myself, using the programmer as an intermediary. Like looking into a fun house mirror … it is myself, but distorted by the wavy glass.  So it is no surprise I could get it to say what I said was interesting ... since I see myself that way (Preening).

People are still fooled by The Turk and Clever Hans ...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clever_Hans

There is always a human, behind the scenes pulling the strings.  Foolishness or fraud, your choice ;-)  We can hide the ghost in the machine better now, but it is still Caspar the friendly programmer ... if not an actual live human.

Microsoft Cognitive Services (https://www.microsoft.com/cognitive-services/en-us/apis) is a good example of what happens when AI is exposed to humans.  Why not check it out and find out a little more about how AI works?

Bill Gates doesn't work for the company any more.   As far as I know he goes around using his billions to fund projects to help the poor and needy.

I could think of worse people to admire.

Let Bill give away all his money ... charitable foundations (see Clinton Foundation) are tax dodges and scams (but hate Trump for doing tax dodging) ... and then let him join a Catholic monastery ... then I will be impressed.  His coding?  He stole Basic from Dartmouth, put it on a ROM, and sold it in Albuquerque for simoleons, where he got busted for drunk driving.  Oh he's a college drop out too, genius.  He hired a different guy, to rip of CPM, which is where DOS came from ... because he isn't that good a coder.  He is a businessman, one of the most rapacious around ... so go tell our new Marxist, how you would love to rip off billions of dollars from millions of people.  Mind you, I am not anti-capitalist ... I am pro-crime, and so I am pro-Bill.  i want you to lose everything, into my bank account, or that of my associates ... because as a "mark" you always need educating about white collar crime.  Also, like the liars at Apple, including Steve, he compromised his products, to avoid anti-trust, and that is why the Feds can read all your stuff on your computer, your game console, your phone ... and make it look like the Russians did it.  And making things in China, the Chinese government can read all your stuff too.  Ah yes ... military intelligence and business ethics ... so impressive ;-))

I guess the non-programmers don't understand that going from an Apple IIe with a 2Mhz processor to a smart phone with a 4Ghz goes a long way toward making the machine look intelligent. What you don't see when you look at your smart phone is all the head bangin of the programmer that went into making it look like it is smart. If your smart phone was as smart as it appears to be, there would be no such thing as viruses or computer fraud.

I think you call AI the work of programmers put in a box for people that don't know programming.

Course if you still want to think your phone is smart I can play along. Your phone can simultaneously launch 4 Apollo rockets.... if somebody writes the program. It could also simultaneously launch, at least, 2 Space Shuttles.... if somebody writes the program.

would really suck for the battery on yur phone to die 10sec after launch.

The "smart" in smartphone refers to the fact that it is a computer running an operating system, not that it is intelligent.  Unsurprisingly, a computer is vulnerable to computer viruses and a computer can be used to commit computer fraud.

Define any existing "love dolls"...

You don't get out much, do you?  These are very popular in Germany and Japan (wonder why) among the more wealthy geeks who can't date real girls, or are afraid of real prostitutes.  What do Arab men say about themselves?  All dick and no brains.  And they got this technology from Japan.  Japanese men are pretty horny, and German men are into S&M ... no lawsuits from abusing your love doll.  But don't worry if you aren't wealthy, you can always get a cheap blow-up from the Sex Store.

Not even you can tolerate real honesty ... with children here, it would be Sesame Street.  With more women here, it would be Ladies Home Journal.  Not that there is anything wrong with that, if you are a child or a woman.  But not in my man cave!  I don't consider sex to be a sin.  But I choose not to use some of the more inventive devices ... though Munch talks about them ... and then there is that recent string on how great prostitution is ;-)

I disagree.  I try to live in real honesty and reply regardless of participants.

If there were children here, I would speak to them as an adult (kindly).  If there were more women here, I would speak to them as equals.  I've never had a problem with that.

My only objection is to theists.

A materialist is like Pygmalion, the Cypriote who carved a woman from stone, and prayed to Aphrodite to make her into a real woman.  This is a very old story.  American reliance on automation in warfare ... from Talos, the bronze mechanical man, who guarded the coasts of Crete for King Minos ...

I can't live in an under-sea volcanic vent, but there is life that can.  That is pretty alien.  But the rocks in the vent would still be categorized as un-alive.  A sci-fi horta is rock-like ... but living.  A rock that just sits there while the Federation mines it, not so much.

It's a Westworld reference.  The point of the quote is to suggest that there's no clear dividing line between an extremely human-like robot and an actual human.

My understanding of "earthlike" means a rocky world, in a zone allowing some amount of liquid water, with a gravity we could survive and an atmosphere we could survive.
