It's more likely than a omnipotent deity who 'created' the universe. Or the most likely scenario, that there is no purpose at all. It just is and we just are. Imperfect, always on auto destruct, a combination of time and space dust. Here for a short period, but enough to destroy, conquer, kill and rape our only home we have.
We are looking for 'intelligent life' in the universe with the hope to find similar species. Some people claim god created aliens. We both know that is wrong. And don't assume all aliens are good. Or bad. But you can assume George Will is bad--he was created by god. Pauline theology is basically the accepted Christianity books written a century or so after 0 AD, not having much to do with what the alleged and undocumented "Jesus" ever said, just what early Christians decided what would get them some entry into the Grecan world (which was far easier than entry into the Roman world later).
