Title: We're buildin' a set
Post by: Mr.Obvious on November 12, 2016, 08:45:32 AM
Our theatre group's been playing 'open' sets for a while. They can work too. But there's just something about a 'closed' set that makes it so much fun.
I'm glad we took the effort for our upcoming play. It really takes a lot of time and hours, but it's so rewarding to see it grow.

EDIT: can you see them now?

I don't know what open or closed sets are.  You're graphics aren't coming through.  Googling on my own didn't help either.

You can't see the pictures? Damn :(

Can anyone see 'em?

Open sets are what we call when you don't use walls etc. Just ornaments on the set. Sometimes many and big ones.
Closed sets are when you build the room where the play happens.

Closed sets are not good for plays on multiple locations. But when everything happens in the same room, I favor them. It helps me to be in character.

I think I would prefer the closed sets too.  Sounds like it would be more immersive.

The bookcase is interesting.  No really.  I'm curious about it.

Well, it's made of wood. And it was in our attic :)

My eye was caught by the staircase.  It's actually part of the set, not just an obvious prop that's supposed to look like part of the set.

@SGOS & @Cavebear

A close up :p

And a final picture with, though not perfect, much better lighting.

So what are we looking at?  A basement?

Correct :)

I voted to put loads more junk in there, but my fellow actors and actrices didn't agree.

Whatever though. I'm pretty sure that's the only time in history a democratic process lead to a bad outcome.

It's convincing enough, I think.  That particular stair design is very basement-ish.  I thought it also could have been a grunge apt.

The lighting really helped :)

Kind of wish I could help. I have an entire workshop set up to build almost anything you might need as far as funiture, walls, etc.. I may just look around locally to see if there are theater groups here that can use my skills and shop..
