Just for people don't get confuse when trying to visit us I purchase atheistforums.net and going to have it redirect to the site. I will update when this is down. Atheistforums.org is taken already and will try to see if I can bid to get that name as well. Too many Atheistforums and we need to own all of those names.

do it up
I'm confused. atheistforums.org is huge.
.com, . org, and . net, combined:

So are we building an atheist empire or the thousand year Reich?
Yea, I don't think .org management is going to be interested in selling out any time soon. As has already been said that site is a lot more active than this one these days. Many of the members here are members there including Wolf. Plus Tibs was part of this place way back when, and there was some kind of falling out which is why he started the .org site. But you never can tell. Tibs isn't much more active over there these days than Reggie was here before the management change here.
atheistforums.xxx is taken?

I was familiar with Infidelguy before I came here, but Reggie was a non entity since I've been here, 6+ years. I found this site by accident. It may be the .org dude is willing to do a Reggie and divest, but whatever. I personally don't see the need, but I'm not a tech person.
I would love to buy .org out and merge with that community. It may cost alot to convince them
I find the size of this crowd cozy like a hot tub.

Everyone has their price so all it takes is money. Mostly likely LOTS of it in this case but yeah. Offer the owner a cool $240,000,000 and I'm sure you'll have a deal before the end of the day.
I've contributed my share to keep the forum running, if this turns into a fundraiser, count me out. We might have to change Naru's status to "emperor".

. You have nothing to worry about. This is coming out of my own pocket.
I checked out the .ORG site. There were a lot of posts. It was scary.
I'm pretty anti-social by nature, and my brain simply will not relate names and faces to any of the "identity" information my brain stores about them unless I REALLY get to know them. I know a person by what they've posted in the past, not by their name or avatar, usually. It makes it...uncomfortable when someone brings up a conversation from the past and I realize who it is I'm talking to. So a bigger forum scares me.

Maybe convince them that it would be good to merge in a way that it's beneficial to them? Money might not need to be involved... in fact... it could work out that they pay us... slim chance, but possible.
One site, last twenty-four hours activity on one page. The other, last hour's activity on the first page. Hmmmmm.

That would be nice. But I rather have our staff be in control if we merge. Not sure if the owner will be willing to give up admin rights without a pay out
Nothing was send to the owner yet. Right now it's only talk and no offer will be made until we feel it's a right move. I rather have our community alive instead of killing both

ahh. good point
Ok so here is what is happening. Right now any changes is going on hold for a while. I'm getting laid off on Nov 1st so I won't have the funds to purchase or merge with anyone. As for the future of this site nothing is going to change. The site will live on.
I propose we build a firewall between Atheistforums.com and Atheistforums.org and make Atheistforums.org pay for it!

Their site is full of trolls and spammers and 4chan hackers, and some - I assume - are good people.
Good 4chan hackers?

There is some confusion. I lost my bookmark one time, and googled atheistforums, and at first, ended up someplace else. But it was easy enough to find this forum again without that much work. I don't know if the other forums with similar names capture people that might end up here, but I don't care. Sounds like they also capture more trolls. I know that increasing membership appeals to some members here, and some members have started discussions on dos and don'ts for increasing participation, but I'm still OK with this place as is. But it's your money, and if this is important to you, then good luck with it. I just think there are better ways to spend your money.
Forums for atheism are not internet magnets. Not that many people have a sincere interest in learning about atheism. I decided to snoop some other forums the other day and noticed the forum over at about.com seems to have died. And we almost died a while back. But a bigger membership may or may not prevent that.
why desire to own all 3?
how do you promote this site?

Make it easier for people to find this site. Also if people use the .com .org or .net it will lead to the same site. This will improve traffic to the site.

Someone linked to this thread over at atheistforums.org so I thought I'd swing by and comment. The above statement is inaccurate. I was never a big part of this place. I think I had an account with a few posts maybe 6-7 years ago, but I've long since forgotten the username / password. The "falling out" actually happened on a previous forum I was an admin of, atheistforum.com (no 's'). As far as I'm concerned there's no ill feelings between myself and the management of this place. Just wanted to make that clear.
Anyway, we're not interested in selling either. You guys have your corner of the Internet, we have ours. Some people are members of both and seem to appreciate the differences in the communities.

Other denominations of atheism are wrong. We must destroy them and make them see the light; the true atheism. The chosen atheism. We must have them cast aside their wicked ways and follow the right righteous godless path.
Nah, in honesty if this were to happen so be it. But I don't need this to be a thing.

Thanks for setting the record straight, Tiberious. I was just talking from memory from some conversation several years back. Just goes to show why hearsay, especially old memories of something someone said, is not reliable evidence...

HERETIC! BURN HIM SO THAT OTHERS MAY SEE THE LIGHT OF TRUE ATHEISM!
Not necessary.
As an admin (there), and a long time member now lurker here, I would say that the differences are what make the two places great.

Every new mod we promote is tasked with cleaning it out. They just haven't been pulling their weight.
You just can't get the staff.

naw bud not any more. I packed in the PhD a couple of years back and went into accountancy. I'm part qualified management accountant now (yay.....:-| ). Seriously not as bad as it sounds, I actually quite enjoy it.
How about you mate?

I love the numbers as well, but they won't let me back into it. I was quite good at estimating construction jobs, 3-30 mill,, medium size projects, but they got me running the projects now and won't let me back to my excel.....rat bastards..but the pay is good, and me and my "partner" managed to get away from the home office and now we just build parks on the east side of Florida..usually on the river or ocean...real tough now..:)
*Update*
Like I mentioned before, I got laid off Nov 1st. The good news is I was only out of work for about 24 hours. I was able to pick up a new job at Datto.
I would be interested in watching someone with zero background on this matter read this thread.
I'd be on the other side of a thick panel of bullet-proof glass, of course.
Now we have partisan differences between com and org?
Not believing in a god isn't exactly a competitive stance..
I'm still waiting for the ATN.. THE ATHEIST TELEVISION NETWORK with fair and balanced news..and FOOTBALL GODDAMMIT! The NFL on ATN! Arian Foster can read the news every night at 6 and report about all the saps in Cincinnati praying for the Bengals to win a playoff game again someday.

You probably think the Bengals are toast this season, but they just reactivated the running reverend Cedric Peerman who is going to pray them on to the super bowl in addition to everyone in Cincinnati taking out classified ads praising St Jude of Novena the patron saint of lost causes and desperation. THAT'S our secret weapon DAMNED YOU patsy fans..
